Welcome back to the Listings Lounge! I hope you are finding our posts helpful in ensuring your listings are within policy and created to grab your customers attention and boost your sales!
We have posted a couple of times in the last several months on Product title requirements. As each post has a little different information you will want to know, I am going to combine them all into one page and some additional information not previously shared, so make sure to take a look. This will ensure that you have all you need to grab your customers attention, while ensuring your titles are complaint so your listings do not removed for any violations.
Let’s talk about titles:
Below are just a few of rules around title creation that will help attract your customers:
* Titles should be concise. We recommend fewer than 80 characters.
* Don't use ALL CAPS.
* Capitalize the first letter of each word except for prepositions (in, on, over, with), conjunctions (and, or, for), or articles (the, a, an).
* Use numerals: "2" instead of "two".
* Don't use non-language ASCII characters such as Æ, ©, or ®.
* Titles should contain the minimal information that is needed to identify the item and nothing more.
* Don't use subjective commentary, such as "Hot Item" or "Best seller".
* Titles can include necessary punctuation, like hyphens (-), forward slashes (/), commas (,), ampersands (&), and periods (.).
* Titles can abbreviate measurements, such as "cm", "oz", "in", and "kg".
* Don't include your seller name in titles.
* Size and color variations should be included in titles for child ASINs, not the parent title (see below under Parent/Child tips).
More about title length:
While some categories allow up to 200 characters, it’s recommended to keep your title to 80 characters. This allows your customer to quickly review out what your product is, without having to take more than a few seconds to read the title, as customers tend to lose interest if your title is long and stuffed with keywords. Remember that keywords belong in the keyword portion of your listing, not in your title. You can learn more about keywords here and keep your eye out for a future post just around keywords in the near future.
Trouble shooting your search suppressed ASIN:
Title length requirements apply to all products on Amazon’s worldwide marketplaces. Title length requirements are one of the four criteria that could cause a product to be search-suppressed from Amazon search results. Titles must follow the recommended length of your product category characters, including spaces. You can find your specific length requirements by referencing the Category-specific style guides. Visit the Product title requirements to find the remaining 3 reasons your ASIN could be search suppressed. You can find the other reasons for search suppression here.
Not sure if your product has been search-suppressed? Visit Manage Inventory in Seller Central and click on Suppressed.
If your ASIN has been search suppressed, update your ASIN to ensure that it is compliant. If it remains suppressed after 24 hours, contact Seller Support to they can look into this further for you.
Parent/Child title tips:
An issue I see often, is incorrect titles for your parent ASIN when creating a variation for items, so I want to provide an overview of how to do this correctly.
When creating your variation, your parent ASIN is only a place holder for your child ASIN’s to live under, therefore, must match the title of your child ASIN’s. For example, I want to create a variation for my brand of t-shirts.
I would list my title as follows for the parent and children.
Parent Title: Michelle’s Women's Classic-Fit Short-Sleeve V-Neck T-Shirt
Child Titles:
Michelle’s Women's Classic-Fit Short-Sleeve V-Neck T-Shirt - Black, Small
Michelle’s Women's Classic-Fit Short-Sleeve V-Neck T-Shirt - Black, Medium
Michelle’s Women's Classic-Fit Short-Sleeve V-Neck T-Shirt - Black, Large
You can learn more about variations in this post.
