Listings Lounge: How to Get the Best Out of Your Bullet Points Part 1 of 2

Welcome back to the Listings Lounge! Grab your favorite drink and pull up a chair to learn how to get the most out of your bullet points.

Have you every looked at a detail page and started to read the bullet points, then lose all interest in the product because the bullet points are so long, have all the emoji's or brackets and just don't look professional? Yeah? Me too and it makes me leave the page and look for something else.

Online shopping differs significantly from visiting a physical store, as buyers typically have specific purchases in mind. As a online seller, it’s crucial to streamline the buying process, making it easier for online shoppers to make faster, more informed decisions. This is where creating great bullet points comes into play!

First off, make sure that you are following the Product Detail Page Rules policy.

1. Don’t use HTML, JavaScript, or other types of code in your product detail pages. As a special case, you can use line breaks </br> in the description.

2. None of the following are allowed in product detail page titles, descriptions, bullet points, or images:

  • Pornographic, obscene, or offensive content.
  • Phone numbers, addresses, e-mail addresses, or website URLs.
  • Details of availability, price, or condition.
  • Use Capital Letters only for the beginning of each word. Do not use all Capital Letters throughout the attribute. This applies for Product Title, Bullet Points and/or Product Description.
  • Links to other websites for placing orders, or alternative shipping offers, such as free shipping.
  • Spoilers on Books, Music, and Video or DVD (BMVD) listings. This includes giving away plot details crucial to the suspense or surprise ending of a story.
  • Reviews, quotes, or testimonials.
  • Requests for positive customer reviews.
  • Adverts, promotional material, or watermarks on images, photos, or videos.
  • Time-sensitive information, such as dates of tours, seminars, or lectures.
  • Do not use brackets in front of your bullet points
  • Do not use emojis

Bullets effectively present key features, benefits, and selling points in a concise and easily digestible format. Remember, buyers tend to skim information rather than read lengthy paragraphs. Let’s make their experience smoother by utilizing bullet points the correct way!

Amazon Services Quick Start Style Guide

Key features - bullet points

Highlight the top five features that you want customers to consider. For example:

  • Dimensions
  • Age appropriateness
  • Country of origin
  • Warranty information

- Begin each bullet point with a capital letter

- Write in fragments and do not include ending punctuation

- Write all numbers as numerals

- Separate phrases in one bullet with semicolons

- Spell out measurements, such as quart, inch, or feet

- Do not use hyphens, symbols, periods, or exclamation points

- Do not write vague statements; be as specific as possible with product features and attributes

- Do not enter company-specific information; this section is for product features only

- Do not include promotional and pricing information

- Do not include shipping or company information. Amazon policy prohibits including seller, company, or shipping information

As there is a lot to learn about bullet points, I will give you a break to go refill your beverage and you can tune into Part 2 of this information here.
