Listings Lounge: Optimizing Your Product Listing for Search Results
Welcome back to the Listings Lounge! We are happy to have you back!
With the holidays around the corner, we want to ensure that customers can find your products and boost your sales by ensuring that you have everything you need to know about keywords!
In this article, we will review how to get the most out our your keywords, ensuring your customers can find your products quickly and easily!
What is a keyword?
Keywords are words or phrases that describe your product such as 'handmade jewlery’ or 'beaded necklace.' This helps your customer find your product when they search for keywords that describe the product they are looking for.
Today we are going to focus on generic keywords also known as search terms.
Search terms mean terms that you enter into the Generic Keyword field when you list or update an ASIN, which are indexed in the search engine for matching.
Short-tail and Long-tail Keywords:
What are short-tail and long-tail keywords? Great question! Let me explain further.
Short tail keywords are search terms that are made up of no more than one word. They refer to very broad topics rather than specific ones. For example, ‘furniture’ ‘sofa’, are an example of a short tail keyword while ‘red leather couch’ is an example of a long tail keyword.
You will want to use a combination of short-tail and long-tail keywords when entering your keywords. Keep in mind, Search Terms (generic_keywords) should be less than 250 bytes long, which is different than characters (read more). If it exceeds the limit, the attribute is completely ignored by Amazon Search, so choose your words wisely.
Are search term attributes required for certain product types?
Effective December 6, 2023, the Generic keyword field is required for the following 23 product types. You can find the specific categories as well as many other FAQ's here.
