This week, the Listing Lounge is coming to you from the great outdoors as we are exploring the trees... the Great Browse Trees to be exact! (These trees aren’t actually outside, they are found in a spreadsheet template but we will cover more of that a little later)
On Amazon, customers can search for products by browsing or by using the search box, however most customers use a combination of browse AND search.
To help customers find products, Amazon developed a detailed product hierarchy, known as the browse-tree structure. Customers refine their search by category links until they narrow it down to the desired product.
Amazon uses Item Type Keywords, Product Description, Bullet Points and other detail page elements to classify products under the correct categories.
An example of the browse-tree category structure that is used for search navigation is shared below:
Electronics > Electronics Bags & Cases > Laptop Computer Briefcases
Some categories will show the browse tree guide available after a seller has been approved to sell in that particular category. Categories such as Entertainment Collectibles, Fine Art, Gift Cards, Sports Collectibles/Trading Cards, fall within this scope.
You can find the correct Item Type Keyword or Browse node for your product by downloading the category specific Browse Tree Guide linked here.
If you believe your ASIN is incorrectly mapped, you can reach out to Selling Partner Support and provide them with the following information:
While you may submit a ticket to update the browse tree path of an ASIN, if the category team finds the current browse node hierarchy the most optimal (since customers have searching for similar ASINs that way), the new suggested browse tree path may not be accepted.
Thank you for joining us on today’s Listing Lounge. If you have questions regarding a specific browse node path you would like a Community Manager to review, please begin a new discussion, select the Create and Manage Listings category, and use the tags, ‘ASIN,’ ‘Detail Page’ and ‘Listings’ .
