@priscilla_amazonand @KJ_Amazon (sorry, not sure why it didn't post in the right forum the first time!)
Not sure how long it's been this way, but I just noticed that all of the sub categories for handmade have disappeared. The information is still in the category listing report, but isn't being used on Amazon.com (see enclosed pictures, but I also have a loom recorded that I can't post here). When you are in a listing, it does not show the subcategory in the product details section:
it does not show the breadcrumbs at the top of the page:
the actual page for subcategory BSR's doesn't exist anymore,
and on the main Amazon BSR page, Handmade doesn't have a hyperlink anymore that opens into the subcategories.
I think this is one more thing that is having a sales impact for the handmade category because correct categorization has a huge impact on how items are shown on Amazon. Can you have a team member look into this ASAP? Thanks!
(And even though I know it's a huge exercise in futility, I also opened a case (16323357271) so you can get someone right on this.)

A (natural) consequence of the project to move Handmade listings to "normal" Amazon product categories? Said project being undertaken (supposedly) because (deluded) HM sellers thought it would improve visibility ...
Agreed, Because when buyer search by keyword, the handmade categories will show up in the same place on the front page as the regular categories. The only difference between the two is that it shows up in the same categories now, but not many buyer use the categories to find their products.
I think sellers who regularly check and search the front page for search terms are aware of this. In the handmade arena Amazon is already clearly outclassed by etsy, now we'll be unified into the general categories to compete for rankings with other lower priced products (of course there's no way we'll be able to compete with the regular low priced products) unless Amazon gives our handmade products handmade-tag labels like amazon choise to make it easy for customers to see that we are handmade products.
Now that there will be this update I think Amazon is trying to standardize the product profiles in order to make it easier and faster for them to get statistics. This is main reason far i can tell.
I love that idea of Amazon adding a Handmade" tag to the listings. I agree, that's the only way to compete with the mass produced products that have thousands of reviews
"and on the main Amazon BSR page, Handmade doesn't have a hyperlink anymore that opens into the subcategories."
This in effect really limited the number/type of HM products that are showcasing on the Bestseller page.
This must be a recent change, I looked at "HM Bestseller" a few days ago, and the subcategories links were still there.
Hi @Tahmi,
