Hello, all,
This is my first time to post although I read the boards often; many thanks to those of you out there who offer up advice!
I’m a small-time seller; I sell 1-2 books a month as a hobby. I sold one last Friday, purchased the postage through Amazon, and dropped off the package at my local post office. This was on 4/20. Maybe there was a little too much 4/20 going on in the back room, but the package has never been scanned. The tracking number still shows Pre-Shipment six days later. It was BPM going from Houston to San Francisco, so it’ll take some time to arrive, but I’ve never had a package stay unscanned for this long.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Any suggestions?
Unfortunately I have no solution to this.
It happens to me a lot more than it should.
about 1 to 2 percent of packages.
I call it miss scanning.
Every now and then when it happens to a bunch of packages at once a phone call to my postmaster gives them a shove and they go live.
But, that is rare…most of them disappear into post office heaven forever.
I either resend the package or refund it.
It has happened to me a couple times over the years. Sometimes packages arrive at its destination without being scanned but that is very rare. If the package does not arrive to the customer, they will let you know about it. If a customer contacts me about INR and the package was never scanned, I apologize to the customer and give them a 100% refund.
If I never hear from the customer, I don’t worry about it and move on to the next sale.
Yes, I had similar issues. Once I went online requesting text/email updates or open a claim online, for some reason those "Pre-Shipment packages suddenly showed up within a day. These requests alerts USPS they need to update on that package. I’ve had about an 80% success rate in locating “Pre-shipment” packages like this. Hope this helps!
We get this almost daily. Someone is babysitting the tracking number and cant believe the United States Post Office does not scan the package every step of the way. We have had stuff in limbo for days, weeks…only to never see a single scan from it. Then all of a sudden its delivered and all the scans are uploaded.
You could try and call the local office and let them be aware of whats going on, worth a shot if your only moving a few things a month. Best case is it might be making a trip around the country and keeps getting into the wrong bin and nobody wants to be the one that scans it and shows that they messed up.
Worse case…its gone.
Yes, especially during the holidays when USPS falls apart, 90% tracking not updated. It’s either lost or it will be delivered (right after you refund customer.)
