Read onlyWelcome back to the Listings Lounge everyone!
Having the world’s largest ecommerce catalog is part of what makes Amazon great and attractive to buyers, but that doesn’t come without some issues. I suspect you have seen product listings that appear to be identical but have different ASINs and separate detail pages. From time to time, given the scale of the catalog, duplicate ASINs can be generated. This can be disruptive to your selling because those separate detail pages split traffic and can be confusing to buyers. There is however a solution! Merging Duplicate Product Pages!
With this Self Service Tool you can take two ASINs and request they be reviewed for a merge. You provide a “Target ASIN” (the ASIN to be retained) and a “Source ASIN“ (the ASIN that will be merged) and the system reviews for eligibility for a merge. Amazon has strict guidelines on when a merge is allowed, so please note that the products must be identical in all attributes including UPC. If the products vary in any way they may not be permitted for a merge. Additionally for ASINs for brands registered in Amazon Brand Registry can only be merged if the requester is the rights owner.
Once a merge does occur however, all the history and reviews of these two ASINs will be combined. It can take about 7 days for all merged product reviews to appear in the merged ASIN. Amazon does also do merges internally when duplicates are identified by the system, but by providing your information yourself you can ensure your products are always up to date, and that there are no duplicates in the catalog.
Have you ever had to merge an ASIN? What was your experience? Tell us about it here!
Thanks for your time and for those who celebrate Thanksgiving, have a great one.
