AmazonBasics is offering very similar products to best sellers.
Every single amazonbasics product has at least 15 VINE reviews (some comments are really fake) at the first day of selling.
Why Amazon is copying these best seller products while it makes money from commission and FBA fees?
Amazon would be remiss if it didn’t react to the huge market analysis that is the 3p seller pool.
When Amazon sees a particular item taking off, they use their purchasing and sourcing power to develop products under their house brand.
Because they are generic unbranded products available all over Alibaba.
Why would they not take advantage of their data? When they see hundreds of sellers selling the exact same products on their site with no real branding or patent rights, the most reasonable action is to offer the stuff themselves under the reputable Amazon brand and make profit.
@trojan_seller, they are only affecting the 3P Sellers who are selling items that can easily be generalized and/or are sourced from a common, unbranded, known source. Those with unique and/or proprietary and/or difficult-to-source items–particularly for Sellers who are manufacturers, rights holders, etc–have not (yet) been identified as a possible revenue stream.
TBH, I have purchased several sets of AmazonBasics wire shelving units in the past year. They’ve been the lowest priced, highest quality, and quickest-yet-safest shipped items I have bought, compared to the same item from other sites and/or other Sellers. Amazon is doing something right, likely due to their sourcing power, as @Bad_Brittnie noted. As a consumer, I would be foolish to choose any other wire shelving source at this point.
Amazon would be stupid not to develop and offer there own generic unbranded product. This is like asking someone why they picked up that $50 bill laying on the sidewalk
Amazon is selling generics, or their own brands, of commodity type products, like most major retailers.
Simple solution:
Don’t sell “basic” stuff.
They also prevent 3rd party sellers from selling AmazonBasics stuff. I got a AB HDMI cable that was never used (still had the twist tie on)in a box of mixed items. Amazon was selling it new for $12. I wanted to sell mine for $9… wasn’t allowed to list it.
Walmart does it…Kroger does it…who else can name a major distribution chain that has done it? When Amazon started selling leather belts my sales tanked on Amazon…oh, I was sorely bummed.
then I grew up.
