Read onlyThis has been going on for a week now, Amazon has debiting tons of shipping adjustments from the funds daily, and now today March 7th, 30 some more. These are petty amounts, 20 cents here, 9 cents there, 75 cents here but the all add up, and with no rhyme or reason when everything was entered correctly. Page after page of this mess. There is no way to dispute them, either amazon is stealing or USPS is, probably both but this has to stop. If there was a known or cited weight discrepancy or something like that I could understand, but none of these come with any transparency for the oddball amounts being taken out of funds. Amazon buyshipping we will no longer use. They have taken several hundred dollars in the past few days for this.
Hi @Seller_2ocdeVST6pSqj,
I feel your frustration with all these small shipping adjustments adding up! Let me share what I found in the help pages that might explain what's happening.
According to the Carrier Shipping Correction Charges page (link), these small charges likely come from USPS's Automated Package Verification (APV) system. Under the "USPS" section, it explains that USPS automatically verifies every package's weight and dimensions, then charges or credits your account for any differences they find - even small ones.
I noticed you mentioned there's no transparency about the amounts. You can see the specific reason for each adjustment by clicking the amount in the "Total" column of each Carrier Adjustment entry in your Transaction View. This should show you exactly what USPS measured versus what was on the label.
While I understand you're planning to stop using Amazon Buy Shipping, it's worth noting that USPS uses this verification system for all packages, regardless of how the shipping label was purchased. The help page mentions this under the "Note" section: "None of these charges come from Amazon. They are charges from the carriers that Amazon is referencing to you."
I hope this helps explain those seemingly random adjustment amounts you're seeing.
I've noticed this, as well. And there is no reason given for the adjustments. The weight I enter is correct, the dimensions are correct.
The only thing they change are the order of the numbers, or the way they're represented. I say 7x6x4, and Amazon says no, it's actually 7x4x6 - that will be $0.95, please. I say it's 1 pound and 2 ounces, Amazon says no, it's actually 18 ounces - that will be $0.35, please.
Worst part about the situation is there is no way to dispute any of these BS adjustments.
I've been getting a ton of these, too! It is usually USPS saying the weight is incorrect. For instance, an item that I personally packaged and weighed at 1lb. for USPS Media Mail (actual weight is less than a lb.) is suddenly 8.623 lbs. according to USPS. These adjustments are FALSE and just WRONG and this is THEFT in my opinion.
It has to be a scam. I ship way more with ebay and haven't had an adjustment in years. But here they are constant.
I wonder if you are just dropping the packages off at the Post Office or are you actually handing them to a clerk and getting a receipt. Despite the inconvenience, I try to always go to a clerk. And, get a receipt. I know they weigh every package. So, maybe that averts mistakes in weight. We've only had one adjustment and I suspect it was my fault. But, we aren't heavy hitters like some of you are.
AMAZON ONLY ACCEPTS AND PAYS with our money the ERRORS of the carrier.... THERE IS NO WAY to make a claim or verification in USPS OR UPS for weighing errors of the packages, for them 8 oz are 8 lbs
Thank you for sharing that feedback about carrier adjustments @Seller_2ocdeVST6pSqj. It has been shared with our partner team for their review.
If you wish to dispute any Buy Shipping adjustments, those must be filed through seller support and not directly with the carrier. I recommend being specific about the orders and adjustment details you are disputing, and including product info and/or photos that support the original label information.
Thanks for this example @Seller_LAhuiXJ4eMubd. The order that dimensions appear, or the pounds/ounces display, does not affect the shipping rate or adjustments.
There are a few reasons why carrier adjustments may be applied when Seller Central shows matching customer-entered and carrier-audited dimensions and weight. These include surcharges such area and fuel surcharges, as well as some cases where updated carrier-audited details are not visible in Seller Central. More information on those kinds of charges can be found in the seller help page: Carrier shipping correction charges.
If the reasons for these mystery adjustments are things like area and fuel surcharges, then shouldn't Amazon be showing us these surcharges as part of the price during the Buy Shipping process? How are we supposed to make decisions on which carrier we are going to use for an order if the prices Amazon is showing us are inaccurate?
And if the reason for the carrier adjustment is due to Amazon showing us an inaccurate price during the Buy Shipping process, shouldn't Amazon be covering the cost of the adjustment, since it was their mistake?
100% FALSE. I currently have a seller support case going (17405587851), and they're basically telling me to go kick rocks. They literally used the words 'there is no way to dispute any shipping adjustment'.
This is a serious issue that needs to be resolved.
These adjustments could be due to the USPS selling identical tracking numbers. It has happened to me before on other shipping platforms like end-eescia.
I shipped 4 Oz packages and the identical tracking numbers other people used were Lbs, so they charged my account the difference, hundreds of dollars. USPS double-dipped. A fraud. I lost that money This happened 5 years ago, which means there has been no innovation from the USPS.
This is 100% USPS doing, Amazon has nothing to do with this. I have talked to the general postmaster, also the head of the USPS business division and I got nothing, just empty apologies.
They have been doing this to me for months. I make sure that i weigh each piece and put the correct weight on the USPS page and they have been tacking on anything from 5 cents to a dollar on each piece. I try to investigate but get stonewalled by amazon. Something is clearly amiss but i make enough money that it is not worth my time to gripe.
I have the same issue with buy shipping - watch those unused labels where you ask for a refund - often they are not refunded or they tell you its denied because its in the mail stream but its not and unused
@KJ_Amazon You are speaking out of both sides of your mouth. I did exactly what you say to do here. I filed a dispute with seller support. I was specific about the order and adjustment details I was disputing and I included product info photos that supported the original label information. When all was said and done, you replied:
"Hello @Secret_City_Books I reached out to our partner team regarding your disputes of the adjusted shipping rates. The team does not have any additional path for you to dispute those adjusted charges, and suggested that you work directly with the carrier to dispute and resolve them."
So which one is it? Do we dispute these charges with seller support or with the carrier?
As a general rule, sellers must file disputes through seller support and not directly with the carrier. However, for your disputes, does not have any additional path for you to dispute those adjusted charges, and suggested that you work directly with the carrier to dispute and resolve them.
Why? Can you please explain to me why after submitting proof that the carrier adjustment was incorrect, there is no further path for me to take? Is it even possible to successfully resolve any of these false carrier charges through seller support? Or ar you just steering us into a situation that you know will lead to an inevitable dead end? Has anybody actually gotten a resolution to one of these disputes through seller support??
Agree, seller support does nothing, they tell you go to the carrier. How do you go to the carrier when all the label package info is within amazon, the carrier wont look anything they shrug. In fact they just say go to amazon. Its all rigged and designed on purpose this way, its time it gets looked into because the transparency is lousy and there is no viable way to dispute, it just gets turned down.
The carrier tells us to contact amazon. this is the issue with these adjustments, no one seems to want to do anything about the charges.
please post an update if you are able to find a resolution!
The resolution is to stop using Amazon's buy shipping. The main reason to use the Buy Shipping was to pay the "extortion" fee to avoid AZ claims. But apparently Amazon doesn't honor that like it used to. So if the adjustments outweigh what you would have paid in claims, then it's not worth doing.
Were you ever able to get this resolved?
