The new on time delivery policy

First, this is absurd and pretty impossible to maintain a 90% rating for transit delays out of your control. There are even other things that can cause a late delivery such as, an incorrect address, carrier waiting for the customer to pickup package, weather, the busy holiday season, and much more. Please tell me this rule does not apply to handmade? Which I’m sure it does but it would be a blessing if not. Also, on top of the on time delivery policy, the transit times you’re allowed to set are shortening. So, if we wanted to pad our shipping times to allow for a delay of a couple of days we are no longer even able to do that. The standard option will be changed to five days max. Which means those packages that are going to other other side of the country will need to be shipped using a faster method than technically standard. The max transit time option for the lower 48 states is 8 days and that’s free economy shipping. While, buy shipping on here currently says odr protected for certain services apparently this is only true if we use automated handling times and automated shipping settings. I’d really appreciate if an admin could please chime in on this to provide us handmade sellers with a detailed description of what we actually are expected to do here. Thank you!

we def need a mod to weigh in for Hamdmade. changing our handling times is NOT an option. switching to FBA is NOT an option. we are handmade. we custom make every order. nothing is mass produced. nothing can be sent in to FBA. my popular listings are alp mailbox designs...

jim said on the main thread to ask for an AHT exemption with SS... i will do that tomorrow morning. trying to get ahead of this insanity. only time my otdr ever falls below 100% is the holodays due to all the stuff you mentioned. They need to roll this dumb policy back immediately. Especially for us handmade people.

The policies Amazon has been implementing in recent years seem to suggest that they're trying to move away from smaller sellers and sellers who ship their own products. This means that it's been gradually getting harder for people who sell handmade products that require customization. If your handmade products don't require customization, then Amazon probably hopes that their new delivery policy will force you to do FBA. If all of your products are customizable, you have no choice when it comes to shipping products yourself. The new delivery rules means that you're eventually going to get kicked off of Amazon sometime after the new policy is implemented in September. In that case, you should be working on a plan B to sell your customizable products. Either plan on switching to Amazon Shipping Services or if that's not available in your area, switch to another platform or your own website.

Hello @User1 and other sellers asking about the "New updates to our on-time delivery policy and shipping settings."

If you have questions about the updated policy and how it may affect your Handmade orders and shipments, I recommend posting them in the main News & Announcements thread linked above.

I see that @Seller_xlf3vF516IRli posted and received a response that suggested requesting exemptions.

The 90% On-time delivery rate requirement accounts for factors such as weather events and sporadic uncontrollable events. These requirements are in-line with industry standards and help us deliver a great customer experience.

If there is a major disruption event that impacts all sellers shipping to a specific region, we will not count deliveries that are late as a result in your OTDR. Whether a disruption is considered to be major is a discretionary decision made by Amazon.

If you have questions about the updated policy and how it may affect your Handmade orders and shipments, I recommend posting them in the main News & Announcements thread.

On Time Delivery is no problem for me, never has been. Except, when Amazon decided to override my Turn Around Time to ONE day from the SIX days I had set. If they force automated Turn Around Times on us without an opt out, they can take a flying leap when they "fire" me for not meeting their hallucinated Turn Time. My Turn Times account for circumstances that can and do occur on a regular basis, but are not the day-to-day norm. Their Bot will see my day-to-day turn and impose a Turn Time that I will miss by days a few weeks down the line. Stop the nonsense. Let us manage our businesses so Amazon doesn't have to (as Zon is without clue or insight into why we do what we do).

If there will still be an opt out on the Auto Turn Times, then I have no issue with the new policies. Else, I am doomed to majorly fail On Time Delivery metrics.

Hello @Seller_7UdI0hVdHh441 and all other Handmade sellers asking about exemptions from the upcoming September 25 enabling of automated handling time.

I have continued to share Handmade / Custom seller feedback about these updates with our partner teams.

Our guidance is still to please contact Selling Partner Support and ask them to create a ticket for you for a handling time exception. Please note that Handling Time exceptions are SKU-based and not account-level. In your requests, please provide the following information:

  1. List of SKUs you are request exemption for:
  2. ASINs associated with the SKU
  3. Your Desired handling time value for the SKU
  4. Product Category for each SKU

I understand that some sellers have already attempted to request these exemptions. If so, please resubmit your request and share your Case ID here.
