Read onlyI am a merchant fulfilled-only bookseller. I was just charged $25.00 extra for a book returned to me based on a discrepancy with stated packaging dimensions. I was originally automatically charged $6.00 for a 1-pound shipping envelope sent via USPS media mail. I buy my postage independently through Stamps.com and ONLY ship via USPS. This sound like a UPS issue. The USPS does not do things like this, especially to a merchant-only seller. This is an obvious mistake on Amazon's part; I just opened a case. This has never happened before and I've been selling for a very long time. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
"Has anyone else experienced this problem?"
There are lots of posts about Amazon trying to have more and more returns done through UPS no matter what the items are or how much they weigh.
Get used to it because Amazon is not going to help booksellers (or anyone else!). It is a dead category on here with lots of sellers going elsewhere.
" I was originally automatically charged $6.00 for a 1-pound shipping envelope sent via USPS media mail."
I think your math is off. I use Stamps/Endicia/Dazzle and media mail is only $4.63 for 1#.
Even 2# is only $5.38. You don't get to $6.13 until it weighs 3#.
This is an issue that Amazon intentionally created in order to scam us sellers and split the scam proceeds with UPS. Rather than force the customer to do the ethical thing and send the product back in the same or equivalent package, Amazon allows moron customers to send things back in monstrously huge packaging and then UPS and Amazon bend us sellers over and take advantage of us and split the difference.
Earlier this year, I was hit with unexpected charges—over $1,200 from UPS and another $1,800 from FedEx—for shipping two items that only cost me $35 each to ship. Both items were 91 inches long and weighed about 7 pounds each. I was furious. When I reached out to Amazon, they told me the charges were passed along from the carriers and advised me to contact them. But when I tried contacting the carriers, they asked for an account number, which I didn’t have because the shipments were processed through Amazon Shipping and they can't provide me with it. The carriers then told me to go back to Amazon. It was a complete runaround.
I spent so much time trying to resolve it, but it felt like banging my head against a wall. Eventually, I gave up. If you manage to get your money back, let me know how you did it—I’d love to figure out a solution!
we are getting charged 200 dollars on some returns. its complete bullcrap
Thank you for the post, @Seller_mXORESTBEVs3iand for confirming the SAFE-T Claim was granted in your favor.
I wanted to make sure you had these details on Shipping costs for seller-fulfilled returns handy, as it helps outline calculations for return shipping and other frequently asked questions on the topic.
Best,
Danny
I was told, because the USPS does not have global offices, UPS won the contract last July to take care of all USPS outside of the US shipping. FedEx had it before. I don't know if this is a relative fact or not, but it is a new development and may be why all of a sudden all shipping issues, with my account too, have become continual and constant. It may be a matter of them merging data systems between the two companies and they are not meshing. I have found that with my new job, their data transfer system for small package information is pretty clunky and archaic for such a huge company as UPS.
