Read onlyI’m selling quite a few products through FBA, some of which have sold quite well in the past.
I’m started to realize that some of the products that have sold well in the past, are no longer selling for me at all. I decided to dig a little deeper and i found i’m not receiving any % shares of the Buy Box. I’ve been in stock for at least 30 days and my shipping times are equal to the other FBA sellers receiving the BuyBox. I’ve got 98% positive seller feedback, so i don’t think that’s the issue either.
I was always under the impression that the Buy Box was split equally between the FBA sellers. I haven’t had any shares of the Buy Box in 3 months and i’ve been in stock at FBA for 30+ days. I’d love any feedback from the community.
There are a number of factors that influence buy box share, but the big one is price. If a competitor is undercutting you on price, then you won’t win the buy box.
The buy box is not ment to be shared equally between sellers, it is ment to give buyers the best experience. That is my understanding.
The BB can be split among sellers. I’ve never heard that it had to be equally.
You haven’t had the BB in 3 months and you have only been in stock for 30 days? That’s probably the reason but I am just guessing. Amazon likes sellers who have steady inventory. You did not say how your prices compared to the other sellers or what your ODR is. Having the BB is the result of a complex function that Amazon does not share with sellers.
A lot of factors go into this. If the stuff you see is equal (price, available quantity, feedback rating etc) then it comes down to the stuff you can’t see. Where is your product located vs where the customer is typically ordering it from? Lets say you are located in NY and you’re selling a T-Shirt that says “California Proud” or something. AZ has you sending it to your local fulfillment center but the product is being purchased from people living in California. Well, 3 other sellers live closer to California and their products are shipped to warehouses either in or close to California. As Amazon pays for shipping they will want to choose the warehouse closest to the buyer and your NY inventory won’t cut it.
Also, what is the return rate of your sales vs your competition? You might sell the exact same item, from the same catalog, yet you could get the majority of customers who return the item for “reasons” while your competitors are lucking out and not getting those returns. So again this is something you can’t see from your competitors but Amazon can and not having to deal with returns is a huge factor Amazon would want to limit if they could.
Do your competitors have more of this type of item in this category compared to you? Do you sell 10 items in this category while your competitors sell 100’s?
Although I wish Amazon would be more giving when it comes to the information on how buy box percentages work, I understand why they dont. Too many people would cheat the system and the customers would suffer.
