New to Amazon. Less than 2 weeks into it am almost ready to throw in the towel

First, you should know that I have a lot of tenacity and I generally don't give up and consider myself to be successful at most things that I do.

The number of issues I had from the get go setting up my Amazon account in Seller Central are out of scope for this discussion to say nothing of the quality of support you get with chat or incomprehensible support calls. I have found that their answer to everything is to point you to a URL FAQ which I have already reviewed and wouldn't be contacting them unless the issue I was having was not addressed in an FAQ.

So I started an LLC 'Camtel Mobile Merch LLC' planning to sell mobile phone accessories. I was not clear on which accessories had potential / opportunity so I utilized Jungle Scout that steered me towards waterproof phone cases.

https://www.amazon.com//dp/B0DG5W9K9S

My site has been live for 2 weeks now and while I did not expect my sales to go gangbusters on day one, I certainly expected some organic sales with minimal effort from the Amazon search engine results. I ended up being my only customer sending a pair of waterproof cases to my friends and family. So far everyone has told me that my ads are visually appealing and one friend said they had an 'eye candy' appeal. That's my background in front and back end web development from years past.

I then initiated the Amazon pay per click program to get an idea of how many impressions vs clicks. The first campaign in which I selected 'lose match' along with all the check boxes 'related items' gave me 3200 impressions with 7 actual clicks. I think I was responsible for 2 of them.

I'm now running 2 separate campaigns (close match) and (lose match) still no takers and no clicks as of today, the number of impressions is 168 for the day with 0 clicks and the counter is about to be re-set.

I am being told that submitting my private label brand 'Camtel' to Brand Registry will help but I don't see how that would help. After all, why would anyone care if I am in the process of getting a trade mark on my private label brand? Also, I am told I will get access to Amazon Vine (provide free product in exchange for reviews) Wonderful! in addition to being able to open a storefront and sell other items. Well, if I can't sell my inventory of 500 cases, I'm certainly not going to buy yet more product from Alibaba that I can't move.

I do have a product in mind which I plan to submit to the US PTO but that's further down the road so I would appreciate any advice / help on what I can do to increase by conversion rate?

1. Amazon organic search results is not working - 0 sales.

2. Amazon pay per click is not working. Close match gets under 200 impressions with no sales.

3. After seeing how many resellers there are selling waterproof phone cases, I'm thinking that Jungle Scout's info / analysis of this rating this niche an 8 (high demand with low competition) is plain wrong. I have since halted my subscription to JS. I also used JS to target keywords in addition to borrowing descriptions from competitors websites.

4. I am priced competitively and selling my cases in pairs of 2 for $9.99. This is competing with the generic brands that don't have Prime shipping. .

5. Amazon is about to bill me the $39.99 professional seller fee which I will request they credit back and change me to the free monthly plan of .99 cents per sale since I'm not doing any business.

Don't throw in the towel. Here are some things to think about.

1. The success of selling on the Amazon is all based on the amount of knowledge one has in how to operate a saucersful retail business, and that is what each seller brings to the site.

2. The Amazon seller university will tell you how to use the site but not tell you how to operate a successful business.

3. amazon is a for profit and is very good at extracting as much of a seller's profit as they can get. company

OP: " so I utilized Jungle Scout that steered me towards waterproof phone cases."

BAD CHOICE:

Reason 1- You, and 100+ other people who looked at the same product on the site, all thought it was a good idea. So now you have100+ other sellers selling the same product. None of the sellers will make any profit, but Amazon will.

Reason 2- Do you know how that company works behind closed doors. Manufacturers who have excess stock they want to dispose of because the product's life span is over, pays to have their products promoted.

If you want real profitable products to sell go to the place hundreds of Amazon sellers and Amazon itself shops for items to sell. Look it up online. the ASD wholesale show, Feb 2025, in Las Vegas. Hundreds of manufacturers from all over the world display well over a million products. And yes, each one of them will sell to you with a $100 order. The show lasts a week and that is still not enough timeto see everything offered. And the best part, you already have an admission ticket to get in. Showing your LLC number is all that is necessary.

Even if you do not buy anything, let them scan your crd and you will be on their wholesale mailing list for the next year.

What Amazon is to the USA, Alibaba is to the rest of the world, with one exception. They are notorious for supplying fakes and knockoffs. In the USA, Canada, and Europe, there are regulations on products sold. The rest of the world doesn't care. When Amazon aske to see your manufacturers invoice and you mention Alibaba, your selling days on the site are over.

OP: " I ended up being my only customer sending a pair of waterproof cases to my friends and family."

The key to successful retail sales is twofold.

First the product is key to success. Sell only products that buyers want and need, and sell them at the lowest price, and they sell themselves.

Second, you never went into any retail story that sold one product. To operate a profitable retail business, you have to sell many different products. Do they all sell every day, no, but enough do sell to make your efforts profitable.

OP: " Amazon pay per click is not working. Close match gets under 200 impressions with no sales."

How deep off an understanding do you have about advertising? The bottom line in advertising that no one will tell you, not even Amazon< is this. Advertising will not sell a dead product that no one wants, and it you have a good selling product, it is not necessary. Now where does your product fit in?

Remember, online advertising always comes out of your UNERANED PROFIT. So, are you keeping your eye on the profit you are getting for yourself. Profit is the life blood of all businesses; Amazon is designed to keep your mind of your profit so you will not notice how much they are taking for themselves. How is the time to stop and see how much you have to increase the price of your product to make your desired profit. Way too many sellers find they are way underwater to make any real profit for their efforts.

OP: " I will request they credit back and change me to the free monthly"

All you need to do is go into your account settings and downgrade. There will not be any refund, you just will not be charged next month.

Think it all over.

Amazon support is worthless. It is a shame. When I started in 2016 the support reps were great. They were properly trained, highly knowledgeable, and spoke fluent English.

But such a workforce does not come cheap. Amazon farmed out support overseas. Support staff are minimally trained and just follow script. They are not evaluated for the quality of service but for the case load they can close in the least amount of time.

Phone cases on Amazon is saturated. A simple search shows 9000 results.

It is no more feasible to purchase a simple product on Alibaba and sell it on Amazon, even if you put your branding on it.

Amazon advertising was good back in the day. Now everyone is advertising. It only pushes up cost without considerable sales gains.

We used to spend $$$$ on Amazon advertising. We cut back drastically. (We still advertise new products.)

I do not want to comment directly on third party service provider. We used one before (Not JS.) to automate Amazon advertising. They were good for a while. Then fizzled out.

It is also very hard to be successful with only one products. We keep launching new products all the time. Some are successful. Some are not. We work on the winning ones and cut the losers.

Be careful asking family and friends to order your product. For sure do not ask them to rate it. If Amazon gets an inkling about it, they will suspend you for manipulating ratings.

I wish you the best of luck.

Hello, you provide a lot of useful information and some of it for the moment is over my head clearly due to the lack of experience as a reseller.

I do need to disagree with you on the wholesaler. Amazon is fully aware of were my product is coming from since I'm enrolled in FBA not to mention that I booked the shipping from China to Amazon FC in the US within the Amazon workflow.

Also, were else are you going to buy product for resale? The choice are Alibaba, Made-in-China, Global Sources, and a few other outfits in China.

I have no problem showing Amazon my invoices but like I said, they already know who the supplier is not to mention I received approval from Amazon to private label my generic made in China waterproof cases with my brand name 'CamTel' They are pushing me to register with brand registry but I don't really see any point in doing so at this time. That would cost me more funds to get my brand name trademarked through an Attorney. And for what? So that I can enroll in A+ Content or their Amazon Vine program to give away free merchandise in exchange for reviews?

You are correct that Amazon wants to extract as much money as possible from us and I'm very weary of this. My expectation was that there would be at least a pulse of a few unit sales per day by doing nothing else other than listing but that clearly is not happening nor is their pay per click program working either.

I will likely stay on for a while longer but not as a professional seller paying the $39.99/month fee in which their is no point in paying when your total monthly sales is $0 so I'm better off going with the per unit sale fee of .99 cents until such time that I see a consistent uptick in business either through my external efforts or otherwise.

What strategy have you been following to achieve that? Would you mind sharing it?

The competition is way too big: More than 9'000 results!

I’ve noticed that you’ve been doing really well over the past week.

What strategy have you been following to achieve that? Would you mind sharing it?
