Is Amazon holding FBA packages at USPS post office?

We sent two of our boxes to MIT2 FC and one of them reached the nearest USPS post office and the tracking status shows the package is 'Held at Post Office, At Customer Request'. We haven't requested that.

If the FC has the address activated as the USPS 'Hold Mail Service', all the mail pieces will kept on hold till Amazon pick up the packages from the post office. We tried contacting Seller support regarding this issue and the answer we received is that USPS is not a partnered courier so they will not pick up the package from the post office.

When we contacted USPS for re-delivery, it isn't possible due to the 'Hold Mail Service' active for the FC address.

I don't do FBA but my understanding is you have to fill out the paperwork to send items in. Is the USPS on the list of companies on that list? From the sounds from Seller Support (maybe correct, maybe not) it isn't.

"When we contacted USPS for re-delivery,"

AMAZON is the recipient and would have to request the re-delivery!

If the USPS is NOT an authorized delivery service your only choice will be to recall the items from the PO by requesting a return.

USPS is not a partnered carrier with Amazon, I know from the Old Forum, that many locations will not accept USPS shipments. At all.

We have used LTL in a very limited way, and use UPS in our normal shipments.

I will say lately, they are delaying packages within the UPS network. It may be cloaked by "national disaster, weather, or my favorite, 'held up in customs'." The customs issue was from New England to Georgia (the state not the country.)

You can see it in package delivered, and then it takes days or weeks to go to receiving. Just life on the river.

My parent company does work for warehouses. You miss your slot you go to the back of the line. You send something in by an unapproved carrier, end of the line or worse. Arrive late, "park your rig outside our property and wait, we will text you." That can take days, and they will not let you drop your trailer.

It appears that UPS consolidates, I get that, items onto one trailer. Then they get to drop the trailer in the terminal, but not at a door. Then when Amazon wants the items they send out a tug to pull the trailer in.

When done, UPS is called to come pick up the trailer.

This is just how it works.

To get a USPS package currently on hold at the post office returned to the sender, you can use the "Package Intercept" feature on the USPS website, where you can select the option to "return to sender" and initiate the process online; if you don't take action to pick up the package within the specified time frame, it will automatically be returned to the sender as well.

Key steps:

  • Log in to your USPS account: Access the USPS website and log in using your account details.
  • Use Package Intercept: Navigate to the "Package Intercept" section on the website.
  • Select "Return to Sender": When initiating the intercept, choose the option to return the package to the original sender.
  • Provide tracking information: Enter the tracking number of the package you want to return.

Important points to remember:

  • Fees may apply:
  • Depending on your location and the service used, there may be a small fee associated with using the Package Intercept feature.

Timeframe:

Once you initiate the intercept, the USPS will attempt to redirect the package back to the sender.

No action required in some cases:

If you do not pick up the package from the post office within the designated hold period, it will usually be returned to the sender automatically.

*UPDATE*

We contacted the post office asking them why the packages are held at the post office. The operator told us that the MIT2 FC is new ware-house and doesn't have a mailbox installed where USPS can drop the packages. She told us that the amazon guys usually come to pick up the packages from the post office in a couple of days. But in my case it has been more than a week they haven't picked up the packages yet.

Isn't it Amazon's liability now to pick up the items from the post office, because they don't have a mail box?

I am sure you are very, very new on the river. "Amazon's liability" those of us that have been here understand Amazon NEVER has any liability. It is always the sellers fault.

As a pilot, I know it is almost always pilot error when something happens. Not much different.

To your original selection of USPS for a carrier to do your delivery, I would recommend not doing that again. As I noted above our parent company does work for warehouses (Distribution Centers) I have never, ever seen a mailbox.
