What is the policy for lost package?

Item ordered Saturday 12/1 was hand delivered to the PO same day. Thursday 12/6 we receive angry email <"POST OFFICE SAID THIS PACKAGE IS LOST!! …> We told her she would be refunded in full if the item did not show up in 30 days and even if it did she could return it for refund, since she found another elsewhere. She replied with swear words and name calling… etc… demanding a full refund TODAY!!!.
Tracking shows it left San Diego Sat 12/1 and made it to her Post Office in Brooklyn NY - Tuesday 12/4
What is the best way to handle this situation ?

Nobody is going to wait 30 days for a package to show up.
You might be able to put them off for a few days but 30 days is unreasonable.
If you sent me this message it would go to an immediate A-Z claim without waiting any time at all.

What exactly does the tracking from USPS show.
Does it show delivered?
The package may have been delivered in a neighbors mailbox.
Explain this to the customer and ask they wait maybe 3 days for this to be corrected.

With this said did you purchase postage from Amazon?
Has it been 3 days or more since the latest expected delivery date? (try to appease the buyer until this amount of time has passed)
If the answer to these questions is yes then Amazon should cover the A-Z claim if it is filed.
Otherwise you will need to refund.

I normally just read these forums, as I always assumed,… some of the replies are just ludicrous.
Seller please go to Amazon for all questions/answers, when writing them, treat them with respect even though I’m sure you will be angry by the buyer issues at the time.

I’m sure they will tell you if you purchased shipping through Amazon, you will be covered. Don’t ever let any /-**** in the forums tell you just refund the money… that is ridiculous!!!

From my experience, if a package is stuck in Transit like this, you should go click on the link Text & Email updates, fill out your info, and within a few days automatically, USPS will get the package moving again and eventually Deliver, even thought late.

Many of us are seeing a delay in packages shipped USPS. Many that were usually delivered in 2 days clear across the country are now taking up to 10 days or more. Others are going thru in the usual 2 or 3 days. Some of us are getting this message when we track them at USPS… ‘Your package will arrive later than expected, but it is still on its way to its destination’. Other delayed ones are only showing ‘in transit’ for days and then will start moving again. It started at least 3 weeks ago and has gradually gotten worse. It has been some I shipped and 1 coming to me priority took over 2 weeks. Amazon as well as other sites needs to set up some guide lines for buyers telling them it isn’t the sellers fault when packages are delayed especially this time of year. Of course that is just my opinion, not that it will happen.

I just refunded a customer for a lost parcel as I checked tracking it is lost it went to FL…Its my responsibility to get the customer their order in time. They can open a to z and win as its not delivered by promised date. I refunded her in full and told her if it does show up Merry Christmas…Its part of doing business. You must meet your delivery dates …just letting you know what option I chose. Good Luck with your situation. In business you win and you lose…but to maintain good feedback you must strive to do the best you can:)

Plain and simple - tell them to open an A to Z claim through Amazon - and then follow through with Amazon. - Take the hostile communication out of the equation. Do not respond to the hostility with more hostility - take a breather before replying.

If you sent me this message it would go to an immediate A-Z claim without waiting any time at all.

Explain this to the customer and ask they wait maybe 3 days for this to be corrected.
