Ordered product from alibaba, in which they gave the option to put my own brand and logo on each unit. Being ignorant, I said no need and ordered. When it comes to getting a UPC code and creating the first listing, I'm realizing not creating the brand for this product has added some complications.
So...trying to figure out what to do. The alibaba listing species a brand, but it's just their company name and the products are wholesale (I believe indicating a brand is a requirement for Alibaba listings). I originally tried using this "brand" but ran into some issues since Amazon didn't recognize it. I am wondering now if I should create a new brand name and trademark it, then get the UPC codes and create the Amazon listing with this new brand name. Or, would the better option be to just get an exception and go for a generic, non-branded approach? Trademarking a brand name seems overly expensive for a test product, which this ultimately was intended to be as my first Amazon listing.
What do folks suggest? Thanks in advance!
I know this wasn't your question but it's a word of warning; please rethink using Alibaba as your source. There are numerous threads in the forum stating Alibaba is not a valid source, nor one that Amazon will accept invoices from if the authenticity of your product ever comes into question.
Here are just a couple:
