Listings Lounge: ASIN Creation and Error Code 5461

Welcome back everyone! Hope everyone had a great Prime Day! Continuing with the theme of creating new listings and products today’s topic is on ASIN Creation and what to do when you encounter Error Code 5461.

Error Code 5461 occurs when your account has not been authorized to create new ASINs for a given brand. As mentioned on the ASIN creation policy:

To protect the customer shopping experience, we limit the creation of new ASINs for a brand enrolled in Brand Registry by sellers who are not associated with the brand owner.

Don’t worry however, in most cases if you can demonstrate that your ASIN is an authentic product associated with the brand, you can get approval to create the listing.

The following information is required for your submission with Seller Support in order to proceed:

  • Real-world images of the product and packaging, meaning that the picture is of the product and packaging being handheld or set on a table. The images should include angles from the front and back of the product and packaging, and must include a close up of the barcode and GTIN (unless you plan to get approval for GTIN exemption). The brand name should be visible on the product and packaging. Clothing items should be unfolded.
  • The brand name used when creating the listing.
  • Manufacturer.
  • UPC/EAN/JAN (this is not required if you’ve applied for a GTIN exemption).
  • Product category.
  • Product title (including details of variations in color, size, measurements, model or part number, item weight and so on). See Amazon product title requirements for more information.
  • Product description (including details of variations in color, size, measurements, model or part number, item weight, and in the case of books include publisher and author name).
  • Batch ID of your inventory file process report along with the error code received (if using inventory files).
  • For the product you’re trying to list, provide the existing URL link that is used in other retail stores or sold directly by the brand owner from their Direct to Consumer (DTC) website.

The most important part of this application is the product images. The images need to be of the real product (not sample images or computer generated) and should be unaltered. You can review the video tutorial to see step by step what is expected.

If you have any further questions on this policy, please feel free to ask. However, if you have specific experiences you need help with, I recommend you create a new thread and be sure to include your Seller Support case ID. A member of the Forums Community Management team will help you as soon as possible.

Glenn,

Thank you for the information but when you get the GTIN exemption, how do you avoid a 8541error? I have been trying like crazy to get one on for a month.

I get all the information in and then it tells me that the Brand Name conflicts with an ISBN that has nothing to do with this product.

Have had a half dozen back and forths with Sales Group and nothing is ever settled.

Very difficult to figure out...
