Chinese Tariffs and Third Party Sellers

Q about tariffs: do they apply to any product that's made in China or just to ones you are importing? Say you are buying a product that says Made in China from a US based wholesaler, distributor or store, but you have not imported it from China yourself. Is this subject to tariffs when it's eventually sold and/or does it depend on the category of product?

Tariffs are paid by the importer when it is imported. It would be already raised into the price when you buy it from the wholesaler, distributor or store.

If you are selling books in theory Trump may opt to get a zero or lower rated tariff on books imported from outside the USA. An enormous amount of printing is done by USA and UK owned companies in China and indeed India. It is a little unsettling but any tariff possibly perceived as anti-reading, anti-literacy might be left aside in favour of steel and other raw materials.
