Asked Amazon: Updates to the Send to Amazon Workflow

Hi Sellers,

Many of you have already participated in our 2022 Ask Amazon series, offering feedback and providing insight into the real-time seller experience. This Q&A event series creates a two-way conversation between our 1.1 million selling partners and the numerous program and technical teams within Amazon. Within this setting, sellers can ask questions directly of the teams that have the ability to incorporate seller insight and ultimately improve the selling experience.

As a result of these events, Forums introduced “Asked Amazon,” a place to share the changes that result directly from your input. Here in the New Forums experience, we will continue to share these updates under the tag “You Asked, We Did It.” We are committed to following through on these measures, and this tag allows sellers like you to easily access those updates.

Thank you to all of our sellers who participated in and contributed to our June 28th Ask Amazon: Send to Amazon Workflow Q&A event. Because of your feedback, the FBA team has been able to make a number of improvements and updates to the workflow that we are excited to share with you.

  • API shipments edit on STA: You can now view and edit FBA shipments created on Amazon Marketplace Web Service API or Selling Partner API, on Send to Amazon. When you access your API-created shipment in “Working” status from the Shipping Queue in Seller Central, you will be presented with two options. You can view/edit the shipment either in Send to Amazon workflow or in the old Send/replenish inventory workflow.
  • File upload has been upgraded to include up to 1500 ASINs (previously 600 ASINs): Sellers can now create workflows with up to 1500 ASINs through the “File Upload” option for SKU selection in Step #1.
  • Renaming workflows: Sellers can rename workflows as soon as they create one. This can be done by clicking on the pencil icon next to the workflow name at the top of Step 1, or Sellers can rename multiple workflows through the “Active workflows“ window.
  • Shipment Level Ship Date: In the Confirm shipping step of Send to Amazon, you can now enter a different Ship Date for each individual shipment in a workflow. To use this functionality in case your shipments will ship on different dates, uncheck the box that says “Shipping date will be the same for all shipments” and now you’ll see a required date field inside each shipment card. You may still enter the same ship date for all your shipments in a workflow if this doesn’t apply to your workflow.

We appreciate your continued engagement as we share workflow updates. If you’re interested in seeing what other changes have been made based on your feedback has inspired, please check out our previous Asked Amazon posts below for more details.

We invite all sellers to follow along with this topic on the Send to Amazon home page in Seller Central, as well as here in the FBA category on Forums.

We look forward to sharing more updates that result directly from your feedback.

We need the ability to book both APC and non-partnered carriers if STA decides to split the workflow to multiple FCs

We routinely ship trailerloads on our own carriers to ABE8/TEB9, but are absolutely fine with a pallet or two going to NV/LA/AL or whatever random FC Amazon decides on with APC/Amazon LTL.

Seriously. I’ve been asking for this for months and I don’t understand why this is difficult…

Edit: Also, when booking multiple LTL/SPD APC shipments, don’t show us a single dollar amount… show us the price for each shipment. We need this from an accounting perspective without having to run additional reports or waiting for the fees deductions.

I’ve still been trying to advocate large issues with send to Amazon:

  1. Any shipment within a multi-shipment assigned workflow with more than 200 parcels will lead to Amazon blocking shipments from accessing Amazon Partner carrier eligible shipments Please see the below image of a workflow at STEP 2: Error

  2. Expiration date reporting is still limited to only 1 date per SKU in Step 1. for merchants who sell products that will have 6+ expiration dates (because they are legally required to have it, like food product merchants), This is a major pain to work with)

  3. Expiration date report can’t be done on a carton by carton basis unlike Send/Replenish Inventory

  4. Reporting separate carriers of non-partner carrier network TRACKING Numbers for multiple shipments in the same workflow still obstructive. I have DG goods being sent to Amazon and as a result of how our business relationship is with the major carriers (UPS/FEDEX) one carrier is more sensible for shipments to zones than the other. STA reports all non-partner carrier tracking numbers as if they are all using the same carrier. As a result if you have shipment 1, 2, 3, 4 Non partner carrier, shipment 1 & 2 we have to use UPS and Shipment 3 & 4 we have to use FedEx. We have to first select one carrier, upload our tracking numbers then select into Shipment 3 switch the carrier (which switches it for shipment 1 & 2) to upload tracking numbers.

I have but two requests that would make the new system almost as friendly as the old. These apply only to those of us creating the workflow through the regular StA screens, and not doing file uploads:

#1 - Allow us to put more than 25 items on a page. It’s annoying to set the Prep Category, then have to go to the next page to do the same for the last 5 or so items.

#2 - (this is the biggie). In the last column, allow us to enter a quantity to “Apply to All” similar to the old system, and likewise, have a way to indicate that ALL are “ready to pack”.

These should be fairly simply changes (I know, nothing is really simple), and would have no negative impact on those who don’t use them. But would save a tremendous amount of work for those of us (such as booksellers) who routinely create new skus, and ship only 1 at a time.

Bring back “add to working shipment” feature please. If a supplier sends us 200 out of 250 units in new condition, we would be unable to adjust the quantity from 250 to 200 because it exceeds the maximum allowed adjustment. This means that we would have to create an entirely new shipment with different box labels, resulting in a lot of wasted time.

I would like to request to set a freight class to affect the LTL estimated cost in Step 2. Our shipments default to a higher freight class than we ship with. I love seeing the SPS vs LTL estimates, but it would be nice if the LTL shipment estimate was accurate to what it actually will be for us.

Better yet - I’d love to be able to set a default freight class for an account. We ship all our products under the same freight class.

It was also super helpful to us in the old workflow that we could fulfill shipments separately (i.e. staggered pickup days) when a large shipment is split into several pallets. I’d love for that to be possible in the new workflow.

If the prep is unknown we have to choose No Prep Necessary, then there are always two error messages before we can close the pop-up. So, its about 4 clicks just to choose No Prep necessary for each item. Then once it is closed the quantity that was uploaded for that item mysteriously disappears so we have to enter it again every time. What used to take 5 min now easily take 30 min on a decent size shipment.

My biggest problem and it happens a lot to me is the distribution. I often get one FC has more than 26 pallets. Since it already knows the volume, Send To Amazon should do better job to assign qty. Screenshot%202022-12-07%20151736

My biggest problem and it happens a lot to me is the distribution. I often get one FC has more than 26 pallets. Since it already knows the volume, Send To Amazon should do better job to assign qty. Screenshot%202022-12-07%20151736
