Listings Lounge: Children’s Jewelry Compliance

Hello Sellers,

Welcome back to the Listings Lounge! Today I’d like to go over the topic of children’s jewelry compliance. This has been commonly discussed in our Forums, and I wanted to post this thread to clarify the process for this compliance.

What are Children’s Jewelry on Amazon?

These are products sold on Amazon designed and intended to be removed and worn as an item of ornamentation by children 12 years of age or younger. This includes, but not limited to, anklets, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, rings, jewelry-making or repair kits, and watches.

What is the policy related to Children’s Jewelry?

The policy is in place as Amazon requires that all children’s jewelry be tested and to comply with the regulations, standards, and requirements listed below:

One of the following options:

  • ASTM F2923-20 (Standard Specification for Consumer Product Safety for Children's Jewelry)

Or all of the following:

  • CPSIA (Lead, Phthalates, Cadmium)
  • CPSA Section 14(a)(5) (Tracking Label)
  • 16 CFR 1303 (Ban of Lead-Containing Paint and Certain Consumer Products Bearing Lead-Containing Paint)
  • 16 CFR 1500.50-53 (Use and abuse testing of toys and other articles intended for use by children)

Your detail page must contain the following information:

  • Age grading listed on the product detail page must match the same age grading listed on the test report

* Applicable cautionary statements (hazard warnings) must be displayed on the detail page.

What is the required documentation?

Documents:

  • Test reports from a CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) accepted laboratory that show that the product complies with the regulations, standards, and requirements listed above

Images:

  • Name and address of manufacturer, importer, distributor, or authorized representative
  • Product labels
  • Compliance markings
  • Hazard warnings (For do-it-yourself kits)
  • Product instructions and manuals

Note: All documents, test reports, or certificates provided to Amazon must be authentic and in their original, unmodified format.

When submitting images or documentation with images, please ensure the following:

  • Images are clear and legible
  • Images demonstrate that the product is the same as the product tested and listed on the product detail page
  • Product instructions, manuals, safety information, labels, and warnings are in English and the language of the intended country of sale

Note: Where possible, providing images of all sides of a product or its packaging may ensure that the requirements are met and reduce the possibility of delays in approval process.

Why is the policy required?

This policy is in place to ensure the safety of children while wearing jewelry. This includes jewelry that may not be advertised as intended for children, but could be purchased for use by children.

If you have a jewelry compliance issue that you haven't been able to solve, please let us know so we can look into escalation options. Please start a new discussion thread using the tags ‘Listings’ and ‘Compliance’, and include your compliance case ID in the thread.

As far as I can see, this topic is not about any misunderstanding regarding anything other than the fact that your algorithms keep misidentifying products as such. In fact, the machine learning used for many of Amazon's automated processes appears to be the root cause of everybody's issues. Account health now also seems to have a sort of automation bias that takes what the algorithm came up with as irrefutable fact. This is far from the case and people's livelihoods are being taken from them every day due to this.

So when an item has a bullet that says "not intended for children 12 and under" that says to Amazon - this is childrens jewelry ?

Sort of like a big pendant with a 20 inch chain?

It appears anything that says "girls" is flagged as children , but as usual Amazon will not answer the question when asked . Isnt a 13-17 year old also a "girl"? try asking support and they come back with vague non answer templates.

Of course when you ask " what makes you think this pendant on a 20 inch chain which is too long for a child and has a bullet that says not intended for children 12 and under, is childrens jewelry ?" support refuses to answer or sends back a canned usless non answer.
