I know Custom products are only supported in a couple marketplaces. And I know here for Amazon.com there is a rule that explicitly states all Custom product orders must be done through the Custom builder/widget, and NOT through buyer-seller messaging.
I'm a bit surprised to see Custom products are being listed on the international marketplaces where Custom products are not supported. That means the seller would need to use buyer-seller messaging to get the Custom product details.
So is using buyer-seller messaging for Custom products allowed in the international marketplaces where Custom products are not supported?
We can use Japan as an example to be specific. Japan does NOT support Custom products, but I can't seem to find in Japan policies any mention of using buyer-seller messaging being against TOS.

If a customer orders from you and you need more clarification on the order, you can go into the rder and click on their name to contact them. There will be options or templates that Amazon allows for customer messaging. One of those options is for custom orders.
You can use that option only if the customer has already ordered from you. It is best if you set up your listings thoroughly and make all necessary customizations set to required so that you do not have to contact the buyer.
Forgot to mention @CustomProduct_Amazon in my post. I'm guessing you are most likely to know the answer 😁
Hi @Steph_,
Thanks for the post. Yes, custom products are allowed to use buyer-seller messaging in other marketplaces where custom products are not supported.
Best regards,

Hi @Seller_yoBaUhzkFJuPI, sure thing! You can use the buyer-selling messaging if the marketplace doesn't offer an official Custom builder/widget.
