Pay to Discount a Product?

I have an excess of inventory. I wanted to discount it 20%.

While setting this up, Amazon asked for a budget. I'm thinking "budget for what?" According to the support rep, you have to pay to put an item on discount. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi @Seller_QuAdjsD9IKABS,

You don't need to pay anything to discount your products. Looking at Amazon's Price Discounts help page, under "Benefits", it explains that the "budget" actually refers to the number of units you want to sell at the discounted price. They call these "committed units" - once you sell through them, the price automatically goes back to normal.

You can find the detailed setup guide at Create a Price Discount. One helpful tip from the guide: the system will start deactivating your discount once 90% of your committed units are sold, which helps prevent overselling.

I think the support rep might have been referring to a different type of promotion. Price Discounts are completely free to set up and run for up to 30 days.

Hope this helps explain what that "budget" field is really about!

Best regards, Michael
