Insane Sales Drop in 2024

2024 has been a rough one, we were a seven figure brand last year and are down a solid 50% this year... have kept our products in stock, launched some new products and can't seem to figure out what the deal is. It's me and my sister who run the business and we are now having to consider getting other jobs.

Has anybody else seen a huge drop in sales this year? We are in panic mode.

Most sellers here don't rely on Amazon as their only source of income. The economy has shifted and depending on the demand of what you are selling, sales can go up or down. You may want to explore other opportunities.

What are you selling, and what sort of competition do you have? Is your brand showing up in search?

Amazon needs to lower its referral fee to compete with other platforms. I heard from the grapevine that a certain platform doesn't charge referral fees so everything is so much cheaper to consumers, and all my fellow online sellers that I know of are jumping on that platforms now.

Our referral fees are paying for someone's yacht and divorces... Unfair.

Hello @Seller_ypggk3pkKvAtu

I do understand from engaging daily here in the seller forums that many of you have experienced year-over-year declines in sales. As suggested, you might look at expanding your online sales beyond Amazon. And, it does matter what you're listing and who is competing with you.

You might check out the Increase sales help pages. If you see something there that interests you, please come back here and ask a lot of questions before signing up for a new program. I have seen some programs back fire on sellers who don't do their due diligence. These forums are a great place to do that research.

Thank you for selling on Amazon. I hope you are able to turn things around and continue to list on Amazon.

Yeah, this has been the worst year for sales ever since we started 8 years ago.

For me, I am being throttled... No matter how the "pace" of the day goes, as soon as I hit a certain level of units per day - it just magically stops... No, I don't have order handling capacity set, etc... Its a known theory that Amazon does this, why?, no clue...

Sorry to hear you're going through this; it's been a tough year for many of us. One of the biggest challenges we're seeing is the rise of Chinese sellers dominating the market. They launch new products with poorly written descriptions and low-quality images, but somehow still manage to get a high volume of sales almost instantly. What's even more frustrating is that within just 1-2 months, these new listings rack up a ton of 5-star reviews, which seem questionable at best. At the same time, you might notice a surge in negative reviews on your own listings, which can seriously impact sales.

Even when pricing is the same, they seem to attract more customers, which is incredibly frustrating. It's hard to compete when it feels like the playing field isn't level. Hang in there—it's clear you're working hard, and hopefully, things will turn around soon

We have insane drops at the same time a 39% increase on the original platform where were are now getting higer prices as compared to Amazon where many items which we have 236 listings that have been Price Fixed Suppressed by Amazon with zero factual data so this is what Amazon is pushing for as they no longer need small business sellers they only want to be like their hero Alibaba.

Amazon is a good place for established large, international brands and product lines to reach more consumers; it is not at all a place suitable for people to put their entire survival into. Best business practice: never put all your 'eggs in one basket' - take this as a sign to start expanding your business and not rely on Amazon for all of your income. You can never rely on a single sales source for survival in the eCommerce world.

But, like others said before me on this post, there are lots of opportunities out there to expand. Word of advice: keep your pricing the same across all platforms to avoid issues on here.

This must be due to the brilliant selling partner business model amazon now follows:

- Subject sellers to a highly flawed platform wherein computer programs/bots will run the show and incompetent associates will correspond to issues that the bots cause, fixing nothing, supporting nothing, copy and pasting nonsense with zero regard for the stress and time deployed by business owners looking to resolve such issues. These associates occasionally can make some effective modifications to resolve certain issues, however, by and large they are as useless as the system they are embedded in which requires them to create cases to "the team that handles..." whilst the rest of the world in 2024 accomplishes lightning speed resolutions via the telephone.

-enable bots to manipulate and remove listings due to their inherent inability to contextualize data sufficient enough to make decisions based on such data. Listings being mistakenly yanked as sellers lose sales, paying for removals, etc.

-Etc.

It seems that as "AI" has become more and more relevant/popular, this marketplace has equally become less and less competent. We need more domestic humans with telephone access and less buggy code or else pretty soon there will be nobody left here to code for.
