Read onlyI sent a package on Nov 6th via USPS Priority mail and the buyer just contacted me about 30 minutes ago and he says he has never received package.
I then track package and it says that package is OUT FOR DELIVERY as of Nov 9th. There is no further information or updated tracking information other than the Nov 9th OUT FOR DELIVERY.
Package was going to some sort of Militarry housing unit with a strange address.
Buyer said that they were deploying overseas on Monday morning and they needed a refund on Monday if package hasn’t arrived.
My question is do you think that the package may have been delivered, but the postman forgot to scan? I thought it was sort of strange the buyer contacted me on Saturday night, so I wouldn’t have time to do any type of search for package. Also, I wonder if the post office will cover a lost mail insurance on this item with it being OUT FOR DELIVERY.
Order was for around $100.00, so it isn’t the end of the world, but something seems strange about this, but I guess I will just issue a refund.
It could have been delivered and it might not have been. Unfortunately you have no proof either way. If it goes to an A to Z, you will not only loose the $100 or so, you will take a metrics hit.
It also says: Awaiting Delivery Scan
The delivery status of your item has not been updated as of November 10, 2018, 9:45 pm. We apologize that it may arrive later than expected.
Is there a way I can change the delivery address to come back to me, since if the buyer is telling the truth and I issue a refund I don’t want the package being delivered after I refund?
I thought you could change the address with the post office, but I don’t see it on their website.
I think yes- they forgot to scan.
In theory- it would seem to me- that if they did not confirm delivered- then they lost it- and insurance should be paid to you if you bought it.
Also- if you bought postage from amazon- amazon should cover this- if this was not a SFP order.
I would have contacted my postmaster by now asking for more information. 100% of the time he resolves the problem. Since it is the weekend that option is not available. “…they needed a refund on Monday if the package has not arrived.”
Is there a way I can change the delivery address to come back to me,
You may be able to do an intercept and request it be sent back to you. The fee is reasonable based on the value of your item.
I would provide that (a refund) since they are deploying on Monday and wish them Godspeed.
Our path, your path may differ.
Don’t Refund until you get “Delivered”…or a few weeks Go by…“Out for Delivery” can vary in Time It Takes…
I have had this happen a handful of times, package is most likely lost. My advise is to offer a full refund right away since so much time has passed. If you want to investigate further and try find the package great, but would not keep the Buyer waiting.
If you shipped it to an APO type of address, the military will eventually deliver it. If you think there’s some sort of a scam going on, used to be really good to do with housing issues. You could always reach out to their commanding officer…
Definitely check with the post office once it goes to the APO address it goes into a military distribution system, I’m not sure how that exactly works… but it generally works well… and if you can crack into that system and talk to somebody, that might help you greatly…
Most military people have to conform to a certain code of conduct…
They tend to not like the adverse attention of pulling scams… Or, possibly getting caught…
I suggest you contacting with USPS to ask for more information. They should be responsible for this package which is “Awaiting Delivery Scan”.
I would refund the buyer, then try to redirect the package back to you, and file an insurance claim with the USPS. You get $50 of free insurance included with all Priority Mail packages.
