Character title limit - Very worrying that Amazon can't count

I’ve just edited a title only to find a warning saying the title now has to be less than 80 characters.

Ok so I’ve changed it to 79 and it still gives the warning. I then changed it to 74 and it STILL gives a warning.

What do they want me to do, delete the title altogether?

Why don’t they make sure things work BEFORE putting them live on the site, it’s not rocket science.

It gets worse.

I’ve just checked my listings and they’ve suppressed some of them INCLUDING the one I’ve just changed. When I check them they all say it’s because the title is longer than 80 characters but even after changing them they still have the warning and they still say suppressed. On one of them it won’t even let me save it unless I reduce the character count to 78.

Why was there NO notification of this new character limit whatsoever, why can’t you count, and why after changing the listings are they STILL suppressed.

What a useless and incompetent company… And they wonder why big brands are pulling out?

I have a similar if not the same issue. Many of my listings are suppressed. I would like to clarify that the latest help page states character limitation is 200 regardless of which category the listing is under, any other number is just a guideline and not a restriction. Please see quote below:

“For example, if a category-specific style guide recommends a title length of 150 characters, a product will not be suppressed from search for having a title over 150 characters long, as long as it stays within the limit of 200”

If you go to your listing and click on the exclamation sign next to the product name, it will display different limits depending on the item, some are limited to 80, some are limited to 200. I believe since Amazon’s official help page states 200 is the limit, anything other number is just a glitch and it should be fixed.

I have opened cases with support and unfortunately, they just advised me to limit the character to under 80, even thou the official guide states otherwise. I have open another case and hopefully it will go to the category team and see if they can assist. If not, maybe Susan or one of the mods here can assist.

The policy is what the bot says it is. Not what any help file or announcement says.

The help files and announcements are more likely to change than the bot. But the bot will get you eventually.
