Greetings,
We know that merchant prepared, bubble wrapped fragile items send to FCs are tested with a 6 side 3-foot drop text. Is this test conducted with or without final packaging (amazon box)?
The reason I am asking is; we ship some items in glass bottles/jars and we sometimes bubble wrap them (unless we pay Amazon to do wrapping on behalf of us). We would like to test them before we sent to FC just like Amazon tests them.
Any idea? Thank you in advance.

I don’t think Amazon actually does a drop test. They just recommend that products be packaged so they could pass a 3 foot drop test to ensure they survive the handling during shipment and at the FC.
Well my neighbors think I am a bit crazy in the first place! When I am testing a products packing for shipping I always buy 1 or 2 extra to do my best practices shipping test before I bring it in to my warehouse for active sale.
I toss the packed product out my 2 floor window to concrete below. That is test # 1. Test #2 I hand off the packed product to one of my kids and have them play football with it for 20 min or so. You should see adolescent boys try to destroy a packed box.
I have a less than 1% breakage rate with shipping with USPS and use almost no packing materials, bubble mask is awesome. My #1 sellers are glass.
just have fun with a packed box think of how you have see UPS and USPS toss boxes.
All items are subject to a drop test. We manufacture and ship fragile heavy items to Amazon Fulfillment Centers. We do our own drop test as part of our package engineering.
For items that will break, we always box them and never count on Amazon making sure they will not break in shipment. One of our items is similar to glass. Remember too, they may get shipped in the same box as a hammer going to the same customer.
We do a 7 point 6 foot drop test on all SKUs
really depends on how breakable or damageable the item is.
If you want to impress the customer so they might leave you positive feedback and order from you in the future, package the item yourself so it shows the customer you care about quality products getting to customer undamaged.
