Amazon is becoming an unsustainable platform to sell on. There is ZERO support for 3rd party sellers. It is bad enough that they allow us to constantly be taken advantage of by fraudulent customers, but now we can also be taken advantage of by shipping carriers. If you are a 3rd party seller, please read this, because it is a matter of when, not if, it will eventually happen to you, no matter what category that you sell in. These aren't a few dollars here and there....these are large, random charges that will be deducted directly out of your balance.
We recently shipped a $23.97 swimsuit bottom, weighing 5 oz at an Amazon Shipping USPS cost of $4.68.
On 6/27 our account was hit with an Adjustment for -$227.95. Reason:
"The shipping services purchased for the package did not match the carrier-reported charge for shipping the package:"
Customer Entered Dimensions: 8 X 1 X 10 IN Weight: 5 OZ
Carrier Audited Dimensions: 8 X 1 X 10 IN Weight: 5 OZ
Base Postage Charge -$232.63
Amount already paid: $4.68
Total Charge from Carrier -$232.63
I have called seller support 4 times. Case ID 15560643441. Disconnected twice when I asked the representative to put his information and instructions for me to resolve this in the support case. Seller support instructed me to speak with the USPS about the charge. USPS said that they cannot help, due to the fact that the shipping was purchased through AMAZON, and that they need to fix it. I called Amazon again and this is their helpful response today:
AMAZON'S response: We investigated order 111-4069843-5978656.
"In this case the weight you entered for this order was [5 OZ] and the carrier audited weight for this item is [5 OZ]. You were charged for the difference in package [weight and dimensions]."
Does anyone read anything??? They do realize that the weights and the dimensions are the same, right?? I would think that common sense would also come into play with the realization that shipping a 5oz women's swimsuit bottom could not possibly come to a $232.63 shipping cost.
It seems that using Amazon shipping is now Russian roulette and you just don't know if you are going to get the unlucky, fraudulent shipping charge deducted from your account. Does anyone have any experience in dealing with this and did you continue to use Amazon Shipping to ship your orders?
Thank you.
Maybe they looked at the person returning the swimsuit and treated it as a hazardous return.
Where do you find these "Adjustment Fees"?
Same thing happened to me using Fed Ex shipping. I bought shipping for $27 and they adjusted it up to $227. They stole $166 from me. Don't ever use FedEx shipping. They are criminals.
Please let us know if this resolved. I keep a lot of these as well. Yesterday I had one for .03 it said weight you entered was 16oz but the carried audited weight was 1 pound. Some of them are comical.
I really hope the moderator gets this sorted out, fortunately, we have only gotten adjustments of a few cents up to a dollar or two, so we haven't felt the need to contact support (not worth the headache over a couple cents).
Your case is absolutely fraud and fraud committed by a government institution, certainly not a glitch either, they weighed and measured your package and the outcome was the same as your input, the adjustment was not just an extra zero or a decimal point off. This was done intentionally.
Funny how the post office will pass the blame to Amazon then Amazon will pass it back on the post office, sounds like their in cahoots.
how do you know about the charge? Where is it posted? Did you get an email or did you just happen to discover it somewhere on some report?

There was an error affecting the calculations for some USPS return shipments. While in some cases there were updated carrier-audited dimensions/weights that are not displayed in Buy Shipping, the adjustment amounts are being investigated.
I am happy to let you know that your dispute was successfully processed, and the adjustment will be reversed.
The team is reviewing similar disputes/adjustments, and I will provide updates as they are available.
