I am engaged in the mobility assistance category for the disabled. My products are classified as zero-tax products by the UK tax authorities, so the price of my products is priced without VAT. However, after my products were launched, the orders sold did include VAT. Can I recover this part of the VAT amount?
When creating the product there is a product tax code section where you need choose the correct code. As you will know, VAT relief is only for the end user and only if they are registered disabled and or suffering from a chronic illness/disability,. What happens should some purchase that isn't, such as a business? Also, how would you go about getting the VAT exemption declaration.
You seem to be confusing items that are zero rated for VAT and items whereby the customer is able to recover the VAT (if they are eligable).
It appears your items are not zero rated so your pricing should include VAT and you will have to pay the VAT on all items already sold.
Some of your customers might be able to recover the VAT that they have paid after purchase (if they are eligable). It is the customer who has paid the VAT, not you, so you will not be able to recover it.
