I’m planning to sell umbrellas using Amazon FBA. My product comes with a leather case, which prevents it from having loose parts or being opened during storage. Based on my research, I understand that two key requirements for FBA are:
1. A polybag (or box) for packaging.
2. A scannable barcode.
Since I’m the only seller of this product, I plan to use my UPC as the barcode. I already have a sticker with my company’s name and the UPC code for the product. Here are my questions:
1. Is a polybag or box mandatory for this product, considering it has a leather case?
2. Do I need an FNSKU barcode if I already have my own UPC?
3. If a polybag is required, does the barcode need to be on the outside of the polybag, or is it acceptable to have it on the sticker inside the polybag?
4. Any other tips for preparing my product for Amazon FBA would be much appreciated.
This is my first time selling on Amazon and using FBA, so I want to ensure I meet all the requirements and avoid any issues

As a customer, I would expect a leather umbrella to come in a poly bag (or box). Why? Because warehouses are dirty, and parts can get caught in the machinery.
As a long time seller (and forum reader), I would STRONGLY urge you to use the FNSKU for your product. Even if you are currently the only seller -- if someone else jumps on the listing, you'll want a way to know that that product Amazon is shipping to customers, is actually yours.
Yes. the one or the other, both are not necessary but you can put the box in a polybag if you want. It is NOT mandatory, but the leather case will arrive dirty, scratched and wrinkled and you risk bad feedback from customers.
That is not recommended. If the sticker is INSIDE, the polybag will cause reflections and can't be scanned. Such products go to "Stranded inventory" and you have to remove them from FBA.
You can always print the FNSKU (or the UPC) on label sheets and stick on the polybag. Just make sure that arriving at FBA ONLY one code is visible from outside, or the UPC or the FNSKU.
Just an advice: don't send a truckload of ombrellas but first a small quantity. You don't know how well it will sell and you will pay storage fees.
Hey there @Seller_6Hu7naE2Kxda1,
As another forums member mentioned, it may be in your best interest to have the units shipped to you first for both inspection, and opportunity for you to package/label in a way that ensures accurate processing once it has arrived at the FC.
Let me know what you ended up doing!
