Amazon should re-think their "invoices from the last 365 days" policy (at least for some categories)

I am not currently facing any violation, but I am hearing about an increased amount of sellers having their LEGITIMATE invoices denied by Seller Support because their invoices are not from the last 365 days.

This policy cripples several business models, and prevents third party sellers from bringing hard to find inventory to Amazon's customers.

One of the great things about being an Amazon customer is that you can find discontinued products that are no longer made by the manufacturer and trust that it is authentic. The more that this arbitrary rule is enforced, the less products Amazon's customers would have access to.

Think of the tens if not hundreds of thousands of collectibles and books on the platform that have been discontinued over a year ago - how would sellers be able to provide invoices from the last 365 days? All of those products would technically be erased from the platform if invoices were required right now.

I suggest that when combatting any sort of infringement that requires invoices, there should be a box you can check that says something along the lines of "I acknowledge my invoices are older than 365 days" and then you can input an explanation for why they are older than a year. This will allow Seller Support to focus on the real issues, such as authenticity of said invoice, rather than just rejecting them because of their age.

I hope this suggestion can be escalated to a team that receives feedback, because I am hearing a lot of rumblings of sellers considering moving their inventory to other platforms for fear of a bogus claim from an abusive customer causing issues related to this.

Agree that this policy certainly will limit the types of products that can be sold. It also impacts buying authentic inventory in bulk to sell over a period of time. I know sellers who buy directly from the brand but they buy a 6-12 month supply that could edge over a few months depending on velocity. At that point, their brand-direct invoice becomes unusable, which simply seems ridiculous.

I think if the distributor is authorized and the item doesn't expire then invoices should be accepted AFTER 365 days.

Yes,

Amazon has been a bear lately - been hearing many verified stories of Section 3 account shut downs… I wish amazon could be held accountable in the court of law and forced to pay damages to sellers who’ve suffered these unjust account shutdowns. Legitimate sellers, literally taking ALL the risk buying legitimate inventory, and selling on Amazon - then being de-platformed = abuse.

Amazon, I hope you’re listening to your best business partners. We’re getting sick of these ridiculous practices and violations.

This wrecks so many legitimate business that sell collectible toys, seasonal items that are held until the next year!!! this is not cool at all. Amazon get it together and don't purge everyone who run legitimate businesses. You mention that third party sellers are what allows amazon to be what it is, this is going to kill that competitive edge!!!

If I sell seasonal items, like christmas decorations, Amazon you are saying I have to sell out every christmas, and not keep any inventory until the next christmas? That doesn't make any sense.

Amazon themself sells items older than 365 days. I am very knowledgeable regarding LEGO toys and have seen sets that stopped being produced years ago, yet amazon still has inventory and is selling it.

This summer Walmart put out an offer to sell in their new "collectible" category and is happy to take away business from Amazon. I know most experienced sellers prefer Amazon, but the increasing fees, ambiguity of new ruled popping up, and ruled like this will turn away many sellers who will intern force customers to look elsewhere.

This issue needs a lot of attention. Are we never allowed to buy more than a year's worth of inventory at a time?

The more we buy of an item at once, the better the prices are. The cheaper our cost, the cheaper we can sell it. Isn't this a good thing?

As others have said what is a seller supposed to do with Christmas items that don't all sell the first Christmas they are offered?

Items don't transform into counterfeit after 365 days. A legitimate invoice is always legitimate.

Amazon doesn't care about those items. Only items that sell millions of units, with distributors they can steal from sellers, undercut their prices and sell themselves.
