customer wants to return "defective item" from out of country but we shipped to sarasota, fl

customer wants to return "defective item" from out of country but the order shipped to sarasota, fl. they took it out of country & now want to return it.

they asked for us to reimburse for international return shipping. i told them no. i offered to reimburse for the cost of a package from sarasota, fl ($10.50) back to my place. any issues with this plan?

It is all on the buyer to return the item from an out of the country address. If this had been an international order that would be different.

If there is a return label available through their order page it would be a return from the shipped-to address (the freight forwarder) to you. That label would be charged to you if used.

"they took it out of country"

It might be a forwarding agent address. Was it a bit 'weird' with an account number in there someplace?

Personally, I would NOT have made the offer on the US portion of the shipping.

I would have told them they can open a return and Amazon will give them a return label from their receiving address (whether it was a forwarding agent or not) to you. It is up to them how they get the item back to the US.

im trying to handle this in a customer friendly kind of way but dont want to get burned. i have certainly been ripped off enough over the past 20 years on amazon & dont need to set myself up for another.

if i give them my address & they ship direct to me can i get dinged for any customs? i dont do any inbound international so i have no idea how that works. can they a2z me without returning the item? any other landmines im not seeing?

definitely sent to a freight forwarder originally

I would agree with this approach. Sean Maki - I appreciate you being customer friendly, but there are many variables you would otherwise have to juggle.

Should the buyer blatantly misuse the feedback system then absolutely report it - I'd be happy to review it as well.

Any comment on feedback issues @Xander_Amazon?
