Amzn allows orders under $10 to be shipped via first class letters. This allows customers to purchase cheaper items without being hit with $5+ shipping fee. Amazon then sends these customers an email 14 days later stating "package may be lost" which Amazon has no way of knowing. This creates endless refunds and or a-z claims. My question to amzn is this... with all your endless resources, can't you simply make a deal with usps for standard envelopes with tracking like your competition has?
It's not just 1st class letters. I had a customer tell me she received one of these notices for a tracked media mail package which she got on time. Amazon needs to butt out of this.
i have issued over $100+ in refunds since thursday. to keep account health in good order. Despite the fact that i ship m-sat. 6 days a week. amazon charges us 15% fees not counting advertising. Is there not a single person at amazon who can at the very least shut down the algo bot that sends these messages?
Your point is valid.
But....
This is a peer to peer forum (sellers helping seller). Nobody at Amazon that would be able to address this issue will ever see this post.
The thing you need to understand is Amazon does not care. They get their cut of the sale and that is all that matters to them. After that they will do anything, ANYTHING, to "delight" the customer so they continue to buy on Amazon.
You need to protect yourself. If your product can't earn a profit with you charging enough to have tracking then it is not a good fit for this venue IMO.
Any time the postman / UPS driver does not scan the package as delivered they send out that message. I have received several packages, used the contents for days or weeks and continue to receive notice that the package must be lost. If I was a dishonest lying cheat like a lot of our customers, I could have had all of those items for free. But I'm not. I could have been turned in to a dishonest, lying cheater because I just got sick of the continual notices that I should grab the chance to get something for free even though I received it, but I have not succumbed. So many do. It's life. It's the way it is. We can only hope for an honest customer. It's sad that so much of our population no longer have morals and it's even more sad that our "partner" is who creates the situation.
I gave up shipping anything first class. Generally, it isn't cheaper, isn't reliable and doesn't get there any faster. More often than not I go with Ground Advantage, or since I sell books I use media mail. Those are the most reliable, cheapest and don't result in those annoying emails.

This has been on the "wish list" for sellers for years; however, Amazon prefers to introduce new metrics such as OTDR, which show your transit time gap, handling time gap, etc., but do not account for the thousands of First Class letter orders you hand off weekly.
It is an unfortunate circumstance that they have poured (however much $$$) into this initiative when they could have perhaps invested in First Class letters with tracking. Maybe they explored it and found it too costly to launch.
I am in the same situation; all you can do is mark your orders under $10 as shipped with standard mail envelopes for now, avoid A-Z claims by issuing refunds, and move on. It's not a good system, and it’s not fair to small businesses. It benefits Amazon to take their 15%, keep the customer happy, and that’s that.
On the flip side, all of my negative feedback comes from USPS First Class Letters with no tracking. The least Amazon could do is strike through that feedback since they can’t provide a tracked letter service. But I digress.
I hope that the product team for fulfill orders can look more into this so it can be utilized. I'm sure it would make customers happy or at least update the message instead of saying "package may be lost"

It really sucks that Amazon doesn't care because eBay has had a service for a few years now where a letter envelope under $20 in value (dependent on the item but it's usually small items such as coins & cards) can be shipped WITH tracking in a letter envelope at the cost of a stamp. So the service exists but Amazon would rather waste their time on useless metrics that nobody asked for or creating bots that endlessly false flag listings.

Good question. Ebäy has it. 3tsy also doing it. Amazon is the largest one, they could make a deal with USPS (but Amazon won't do that for an unknown reason). :-/
Sometimes my customers are telling me that they received their order, but Amazon is messaging them about their order and telling them that it's lost. How is that make any sense? Why Amazon is trying to sabotage the transactions? It makes no sense at all...
