Could There Be A Correlation?

Just wondering if anyone else notices a correlation between listing new inventory and experiencing a sales drop? I've been adding lots of new inventory in the past month or two, and, at the same time, my sales dropped off. Is it possible this is connected?

Hi @Seller_DBzTQPDCouH9d,

Looking at Amazon's ASIN creation policy (link), there's actually a documented connection between adding new listings and overall catalog performance.

Under the "Listing creation limit" section, Amazon explains that they may limit new listings "if your existing catalog contains a large number of listings that are not generating sales." They evaluate catalogs daily to check the balance between catalog size and sales performance.

Given that you've been adding lots of new inventory over the past couple months, you might want to:

  • Take a look at which of your new listings are performing well
  • Consider removing any new listings that aren't generating sales
  • When adding future inventory, try focusing on products you think will sell more quickly

The help page mentions they "encourage you to prioritize the products you are listing to increase your sales quickly" - this suggests they're looking for a healthy ratio between catalog size and sales performance.

Hope this helps!

yes, been that way for years. In some categories, media being one for sure.

When you list a ton, you sell more. Slow listing down, and sales slow.
