I just had an order that has a po box address, no other address info, and amazon buy shipping just let me print it on a UPS label. I thought that wasn't allowed/ will not make it to the customer. Am i missing something?
Addresses with PO Boxes are becoming more problematic.
- Is it a post office box? Now sure about UPS, but Fed Exp and DHL will deliver it to the local post office where it waits for the buyer to pick it up.
- Some addresses have both a PO Box and a street address. Most of the time these are residents in newer communities where there are banks of locking mail containers at the end of the street. Depending on the size of the item dictates where it will be delivered. You don't see a bank of mail containers with boxes piled up beside them. They wouldn't be there very long.
We get those too. Sometimes it's second day delivery promise, so Express Mail $22) is the only choice; or be late. A big glitch.
I noticed this recently too. I suspect it has to do with the UPS Ground Saver shipment method which is a UPS service that utilizes the post office for final mile delivery and a PO box would be fine in that case.
Is it the UPS Ground Saver? Ups gets it to the town and then USPS delivers to the address. There should be two addresses, two barcodes, two tracking numbers. First for UPS and second for USPS.
We have a PO Box and get our UPS shipments to the house just fine. It depends on the local UPS terminal. I would rather get UPS to deliver to us because it comes to the house but I cannot get USPS deliveries here.
I went around with Seller Support on this problem of PO Boxes. Unfortunately, most of the Support Cases have been deleted since they refused to address the issue.
Apparently, Amazon is disallowing USPS Ground Advantage for PO Boxes because of ADA requirements. this was a cut and paste they sent me on one of my first (of many) reports of this issue. This article has since been modified (wish I took a screen shot of it)
Areas with no street delivery: The USPS has certain ZIP Codes where they do not offer street delivery. These are also addresses not validated by the USPS. When a package is sent to these addresses, the customers are required to come and pick up their packages at the post office. In order to provide the best customer experience, and to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, orders for these ZIP Codes will have a carrier that is able to deliver to the customer address in Buy Shipping.

They were unable to explain how Amazon Shipping, UPS Ground Saver, and Priority Mail deliveries are able to be completed using the PO Box.
It is a bunch of nonsense.
I've had three of these this week. No options at all with USPS, but all options for UPS (except ground saver).
I used a Shipstation USPS label with one of these and it worked just fine. Big glitch on the Amazon system.
UPS Ground Saver can ship to a PO Box. Regular UPS can not.
The label i purchased was only a UPS Ground label. Not Ground Saver.
