Hello FBA sellers, I hope you guys doing okay and stay safe during this difficult time.
I recently booked a LTL shipment for three pallets. I ran these three pallets with Amazon’s estimated freight class tool and the result came out class 85. However, on the other hand I ran these pallets on freight class calculator on Google and got a result of class 70 for all three pallets. Why Amazon over-estimate the freight class for my shipment and charge me extra for each pallet? two tiers difference in the freight class makes huge cost difference.
Here are the information for my pallets
48 x 40 x 71 1286 lb Cubic Feet: 78.88889 ft3 Density: 16.30141 lb/ft3
48 x 40 x 70 1487 lb Cubic Feet: 77.77778 ft3 Density: 19.11857 lb/ft3
48 x 40 x 72 1357 lb Cubic Feet: 80 ft3 Density: 16.9625 lb/ft3
The density of all three pallets are in between 15-22.5 lbs, doesn’t it make all three pallets to fall in freight class 70? Anybody knows what freight class table Amazon follows?
I appreciate you guys’ attention and please help me with this! Thank you so much please stay healthy.
They keep track of freight class by item then they take mixed pallets and use density. We have sent in single ASIN shipments where it automatically selected the exact freight class for the item being shipped, despite being unique and not use density. For mixed product pallets they have always been based on density for us, but our products are close by category to the class for our density.
My understanding of freight classes is that it is not purely about density per cubic foot. There’s also a consideration for the fragility and value of the product.
