Since launching the New Seller Community group back in January, we’ve received feedback, thoughts, and concerns from newer and experienced sellers alike. We’re thankful for all your input, and remain steadfast in our focus to help new sellers start and grow their businesses via the New Seller Community. To that end, we want to address some of the feedback we’ve received to clarify the intent of the group.
Why did we create the New Seller Community?
We formed the New Seller Community to create a safe environment for new sellers to ask questions and learn. We did this after receiving feedback from new sellers who were reluctant to post to the forums (or would stop asking questions after just a few posts) due to receiving responses they perceived as punitive when asking more basic questions. We want to ensure newer sellers get the support they need while also freeing up our more experienced sellers to discuss more advanced topics. We encourage all sellers to post any questions or issues they have within the forums, and the New Seller Community allows the option of asking beginner questions in a dedicated, welcoming space.
What benefits does the New Seller Community offer?
The New Seller Community creates the ability for new sellers to engage with other sellers of similar tenure, and create a community where they can get to know one another. It also offers dedicated Community Managers with over eight years of Amazon experience to help answer questions, solve issues, and post curated content with a focus on newer businesses. Sellers within this group receive same-day responses in most situations from Community Managers, who partner with internal teams to resolve issues critical to newer businesses.
New Seller Community vs. the broader Seller Forums experience
The new Seller Community is not designed to segregate new sellers from the larger Seller Forums experience. It’s simply an additional resource available to new sellers if they wish to use it. Sellers within this group can choose to post in the larger forums environment— the choice is solely their discretion.
What’s next?
A few experienced sellers have expressed an interest in helping new sellers by engaging with threads in the New Seller Community. We’re excited to hear this interest and are investigating potential ways to proceed. We’ll post more on this topic here in the Seller Forums when we have an update.
We value the breadth of knowledge—and willingness to share it—that our experienced sellers bring to the Seller Forums every day. We hope everyone can recognize how having a dedicated space for newer sellers helps them onboard into the forums experience, and to selling on Amazon in general. We’re immensely grateful to all of you who’ve shared your feedback with us, and are eager to continue growing the value of the Seller Forums for all sellers.
As always, please feel free to weigh in with any comments or questions in the comments.
Yes, lets shelter them and provide with with false narratives.
Heaven forbid we call out bs when we see it.
Like when we see them talking about get rich quick dropshipping schemes they learned about on youtube.
Now, they will just charge full-steam with the rest of their youtube educated class. Get suspended. Then cry to yous mugs directly.
Good plan IMHO.
Perhaps Amazon should require new sellers to go through Seller University before letting them post on the forums or even start selling product? Questions like, "Can I buy/ship product from Walmart.com?" are ridiculous questions and get treated as such.
Amazon is too quick to allow a new seller to get into hot water and then withhold their funds indefinitely or suspend their accounts. All at the risk of a bad experience for everyone involved - most importantly for Amazon's valued customers. The bottom line is we all know what the priority list looks like to Amazon. Moving new sellers to their own forum is just moving the problem to another room.
Would it not make more sense to mandate new sellers to read Seller University? So many fail because they think that Amazon is Ebay.
It is not Ebay. It is far more complicated and regulated then Ebay is with its own centric policies that are far far different then Ebays are. This is true of most of the alternative retail websites out there.
The only way for the average new seller to know this, is to read through Seller University. Otherwise it is an exciting and very short career that they will have.
Hi @Seller_RClwXXLQjUdPk and @Seller_LyYw7fQRKc5G7
Thank you for the feedback. I agree that Seller University is an excellent resource for all sellers, this is why Community Managers (including myself) often include links to Seller University videos as we help answer questions throughout the forums. This will always remain a critical tool that I utilize on a daily basis and I encourage all sellers to continue using Seller University as a resource. However, Seller University videos are not a requirement at this point in time.
Thanks,
Steve
False. You mandated a pesticide test for every seller who wrote a book about gardening for flying spagehhti's sake.
Not having the ability to, and not having the desire to, are two different things.
This was a Forum between SELLERS!!!! [Moderator Edit: Removed inappropriate commentary]
I'm fairly new here and got to experience the old forums as well as this new version. I have to admit that the new version is so horrible that I find it virtually unusable.
Trying to "sell" it under the guise of a ;kinder, gentler forum' seems more like a talking/selling point, than one based in actual facts.
Here's a simple test that I am sure you can do from your end. Is the new forum more active or less active than the previous version? If less active, then you have defeated it's purpose.
Sooo new sellers are segregated and put into a forum where the blind are leading the blind in an echochamber environment.
I'm new and would like access to seasoned groups to have an opportunity to read and be prepared for any opportunities that may hinder business and learn how to find solutions quicker without having to ask as the information would be available in the forum.
Is Amazon trying to hide their shortcomings from new sellers to gain the monthly fee for a longer duration?
"Why is my account deactivated? Please help!"
How many times can the same question be asked before "punitive" long-timers, willing to assist those w/less experience, begin to feel curt/aggravated/sarcastic? This is a volunteer forum, not getting paid for our hard-won knowledge or our time. A d- difficult platform to learn. Almost impossible if the gullible newbie has imbibed U-tube misinformation!!
I do have empathy for newbies. but in my opinion, the previous forum was CANDYLAND compared to the one extant in 2012! We toughed it out -grew a thicker skin. Prepared us for the difficult customers with which AMAZON teems.
If snowflake newbies can't deal w/ sarcasm, some abruptness in order to learn-standard in college classes a half-century ago- they might-since TPTB refuse to mandate Seller University- need to sell on a less punitive platform.
