Ancient Amazonese Secret

It is not particularly-widely understood in our Seller Community that whenever one creates an SoA (‘Amazonese’ for “Selling on Amazon” aka 3P Seller aka Seller Central) Account, Amazon automatically created an associated Buyer Account (link) .

It is also not particularly-widely understood in our Seller Community - primarily, because Amazon keeps pretty ‘mum’ on the subject, in terms of documentation - that said associated Buyer Account is considered by Amazon to be ‘Primary,’ while the SoA Account itself is considered to be ‘Secondary.’

As such, it is not particularly unusual for Amazon’s automated mechanisms to override data entered on the Seller-side with data it considers to be authoritative over on the Buyer-side - or to simply prevent Seller-side changes to be recognized as authoritative.

This is one of the reasons why the seasoned & savvy forum veterans have for so many years recommended, in providing the sage advice upon which the rest of us depend, that any fundamental changes in regards to credentialing, Charge Method Manager, and the like should FIRST be made on the Buyer-side - and in many cases, being willing to wait for 24+ to 72+ hours before making the same change on the Seller-side of things.

Great post @Dogtamer

Just to add a few links to make things easier to find.

Next, just to pull the “Deposit Method” together in one post.

While there is not specifically a “Deposit Method” for the buyer side you can add your bank account there as mentioned by @MMKK.

Once you add it there it’s an easy switch on the seller side.

Same with your Credit Cards.

Yes. Someone recommended once about changing deposit method first on buyer side. My response was that there was no deposit method on buyer side.

Ha! Yes there is.

My own experience is what leads me to always recommend changing credit card first on buyer side. They make it easy on that side. And extremely difficult on seller side. At least that’s how it was at the time I had to replace my card.

Thank you for this info! And also thank you for making me think about the Calgon commercial. I bet they’d never make a commercial like that today!

Let me offer this little known observation.

Amazon will use a credit card which is valid on the buyer side, if the credit card on the seller side is expired or invalid. Even keeping a seller account active.

I don’t think even Amazon understands the complexity that this seller/buyer linked account has caused.

Many years ago I decided to expand into the UK, and made a UK seller account. A year or so later, Amazon tells me to upgrade my US account into a “Global Selling Account” and merged my UK and US marketplace under my US login. However, my UK “primary account”, meaning the account that controls bank accounts, etc, is still tied under my UK seller account login. The only issue? That login no longer exists according to Amazon. When I try to login, it says “no associated seller account found”… but in my UK marketplace settings, it still shows that UK account as the “primary user”.

After months of back and forth with support, Launchpad/SAS escalation, the only conclusion they have come up with is that this is some bug wherein the global marketplace account got rid of the UK seller account, and the original UK seller login email address is now only a “buyer” account, and that because of that, the system doesn’t recognize it as a “seller” account but will let you try to login only telling you no seller account exists under that login… but that non-existent account is still somehow the “primary account”? Confused? So am I.

So I guess I can never change any admin settings in the UK marketplace like bank accounts, etc or I’m screwed… because I literally don’t have access to my “primary account” in the UK. Nobody at Amazon can help me on this issue because they don’t even understand the bug they caused lol.
