Why does Amazon (or an unseen, unknown algorithm) have permission to automatically adjust listing browse nodes (product category / classifier) but the brand owner and/or seller/listing creator does not have permission to change it?
Why is Amazon able to modify a listing (add bullet points from "relevant" listing data, leave out additional lines from the description, remove images, search suppress listings due to Amazon's own unauthorized modifications, etc.) but the brand owner and/or seller/listing creator has no ability to force an override, even after opening a case?
Where are the terms and conditions (or legal documents) that state Amazon has permission above the brand, seller or listing owner to modify the listing without notification, request or authorization?
Does Amazon realize their own "auto adjustments" can diminish or destroy brand quality, coherence or ability to sell and makes listing adjustment useless and/or adds strain to their "support" team or catalog team?
Are real people modifying listing information (those who work in Amazon's catalog team/department) or is it only programmed bots and/or algorithms?
How can Amazon be a half trillion dollar company but have so many issues, not just technically or algorithmically, but permission-wise, not allowing the brand owner to have full control in managing their own product information, regardless of other sellers, algorithms or bots?
You raise some excellent points in your post. It's difficult to understand the reasoning behind the loss of control Amazon has foisted upon their 3P sellers unless you take into account that their main concern is the bottom line and keeping the stockholders happy.
This, from the ASBSA:

Amazon has the right to determine, the design, content, functionality, availability and appropriateness of its websites, selection, and any product or listing in the Amazon Stores, and all aspects of each Service, including your use of the same. For every brand or detail page that's destroyed, it's easy to imagine there are many others waiting in the wings to take their place. Individuals mean nothing; it's all about the greater good (Amazon).
Buyers are unaware of any of these behind the scene happenings at Amazon. They only know Amazon is the place to go for whatever they need, which keeps coming back.
It's painful to read so many threads by sellers who are brand registered (at the behest of Amazon) and yet are helpless to protect their brand.
Hello @Seller_SJokBbZ2i6KiB,
Product listings in the Amazon catalog are purposely displayed on a single Product Detail Page (PDP) per ASIN. This way, multiple sellers who all sell the exact same product will have a listing with their price tied to the PDP.
The PDP is made up of various contributions from the the sellers with a listing associated with the PDP.
You might want to search Seller Central Seller University for the video that is an introduction to product detail pages. There you will find out what a product detail page is, and who can create, suggest updates, and match offers to one. Learn best practices for each key element of a product detail page.

Here is the latest fun I have. Amazon added new sizing attributes to have sizes "from" and "to" as opposed to original single sizing.
Now, listing changed automatically. Size "Small" became "from Small" and "to Small". Then it generated an error saying "to and from sizes can not be same". But, when I try to change the size, I am getting an error saying that ASIN is not not matching sizing already in the catalogue...
The only way around it is to delete product and star again...
I have the same issue. I have a listing where our dress design has "dog pattern" on the title. However, Amazon system decided to change the product > Target Species to DOG and Product Type: Pet Apparel!! I don't know if I should laugh or CRY.
Note this listing had always been under Product Type: Dress since 2017.
I'm facing similar issue. Like Amazon changed my Product type to RING but i list it in FINERING. My products are FINEJEWERY but Whenever i list product it not list in FINEJEWELRY product type.
I'm facing this issue from last more than one month and i open many case in amazon support but in every case in starting they give some excuses and then changed product type from their end and when i for some permenant solution they say that they forwarded it to catalog team and in last response i received in every case from catalog team is that "Product type RING is perfect for your product."
That means amazon want to say that precious metal and diamonds can list in RING and EARRING product type instead of FINERING and FINEEARRING product type.
In addition i want to say that support agent are not knowledgeable they don't have any knowledge regarding listing. For ex. They do not know the difference beetween "Propduct Description" and "Product Specification".
I'll respond to your question when I finish putting shirt colors on my lotion listings.
I understand from your post that you are upset that your items were miscategorized. This goes both ways. A few months back Amazon put everything with "book" in the title in the book department so they would get their extra $1.80 book fee on top of the selling fees. This meant all of our school/office supplies such as spiral notebooks and composition books were being unfairly assessed a charge. About a month ago an announcement came out that Amazon was correcting all miscategorized items and magically our back-to-school/office supplies had the $1.80 surcharge removed despite still being in the book category. Hopefully, the changes will come your way and your items will be put in the correct category. Sometimes the bots work in our favor.
BTW if you call seller support at 6amCentral on a Saturday you will likely get the Grand Forks, ND support branch and they are excellent at correcting these wrongs if the system permits.
