Selling Partner API (SP-API) is launched in general availability worldwide

What is changing?

The Selling Partner API (SP-API) is now available for all registered developers worldwide. SP-API is the next generation suite of API-based automation functionality for Amazon's selling partners and an evolution of Amazon Marketplace Web Service (Amazon MWS).

Going forward, all new API functionality will be built in SP-API, with updates to Amazon MWS only to support business-critical changes.

Which marketplaces are affected?

SP-API is available in all marketplaces.

Who is affected?

All registered developers can create SP-API applications via self-service in Developer Central (go to Apps & Services > Develop Apps in Seller Central). New developers will complete registration for role access based on their use cases and will be able to create SP-API applications with roles that they qualify for. For developers with existing Amazon MWS credentials and roles, we have backfilled access to SP-API using fine grained roles; these developers can update their existing integrations to use both API suites. Developers may request additional access by updating their developer profile and providing any additional required information.

What action is required?

There are no changes or actions required for developers with existing Amazon MWS integrations at this time. However, the legacy Amazon MWS APIs will be deprecated in the future. We do not yet have an established date, but will provide notice, time, and tools to support migration of existing Amazon MWS integrations. We encourage all developers to explore SP-API functionality and begin planning your migration.
