Why did the USPS put a BIG widow on the flat rate envelope?

Was picking up a flat rate envelopes at the PO tonight & they now have a really large (6x8 inch) Glassine window in them.
Why in the world would the PO want everyone to see what is in those big envelopes?
And wouldn’t this add a lot to the cost of manufacturing those envelopes, not to mention it probably makes them weaker, and they are already pretty weak.
What is the postal services thinking here?

I thought the whole point of Windowed envelop is Companies can Print out Sender and Reciever info on the a plain paper and insert it into the envelop instead of writing outside of the envelop.

“Changing the dimensions will allow the boxes and envelopes to be processed more efficiently, increase visibility, and reduce the need for manual package sortation,” the USPS said in a statement.

You’re special they made them up exactly for you…

I usually also use that particular regular paper standard priority – for mailing multiple copies of the right size magazine , maybe with some foam core… on other platforms… or even first class international… there is a weight limitation I don’t remember what it is…

They’re also really great ways for folding that particular envelope or even a legal one & cramming jeans - clothing, dresses, workout pants, men’s shirts-- even lightweight suit jackets , if you fold them right…

Everybody has a few extra stickers laying around to cover that window…

You can order your USPS Priority Mail boxes and envelopes for free on the USPS website. There are many different options that your local Post Office may not stock.

I’m sure the “widow” does not appreciate being called “big”. Insult to injury.

Use a manila bubble mailer, easily fits inside

Because honestly they were always meant for documents, FLAT packages, NOT what ever we can shove into it and then throw a ball of tape around it like so many auction sellers do.

Spend under $1 more and you can use the padded FRE, They are meant to be dimensional

I work at the USPS. We have had the envelopes you are speaking of for quite some time. We still have the regular flat rate envelope also. The glassine window envelope works well for someone that has filled out a manila envelope and they decide to go Priority Mail as it slides right in.
