Does Amazon remit taxes on behalf of sellers?
I need to know if amazon remits taxes on behalf of the seller. I have a seller permit In the state of florida and if amazon does remit taxes on behalf of sellers I am able to file taxes every year instead of quartetly. My other question is that if the report amazon provides me is to report the sales that I make to the state through the department of revenue of florida, that way I can file taxes. My last question is if you amazon do remit taxes on behalf of the seller, does that mean I don't have to pay taxes to the department of revenue of Florida since amazon already paid them?

All states that have a sales tax are now participating in the Marketplace Facilitator program.
Amazon collects and remits for all states.
Sellers may still have to file. You must find out your filing obligations from the state. You may need to file even though you owe nothing.

Amazon collects and remits SALES tax for all states that have it; any other taxes are still your responsibility.
I don't know how Florida works, but in most states, you are still required to file sales tax reports, even if there are no taxes due. In some states, you report the total, then there is a line for something like "Taxes already paid". In NJ, they've never updated the form; we have a total amount of sales, then a line for Sales not subject to Tax, which is where I deduct out the amount (which is the same) to end up with 0 on the line for "Amount of sales subject to tax".
Specifics will vary, but bottom line is that you never see the sales tax collected, and do not need to remit any to your state, at least in regards to sales on Amazon (eBay and most others work the same way).

Hello @Seller_cVmrUB9CcqWRC,
Thank you for the post. While I am unable to provide specific tax advice, I have provided several resources below with more information on Amazon tax guidelines.
- Tax Guidelines
- State Tax Registration Numbers
- Amazon Tax-Exemption Program
- Marketplace Withheld Tax
- Tax Registration Agreement (VAT or GST)
After review, if your question is still unanswered, I recommend that you create a case to Seller Support with your question and they can engage the Tax department.
Cheers,
Micah
