We are a FBM car part seller items priced at around $250 each.
This customer ordered 2 units and filed two returns separately. Both times the return was auto-authorized by Amazon but then after we open the return the product is clearly a very very old used car part and the buyers are swapping old carparts with our products. I have photos and videos of the return.
Do I wait till Amazon to refund them first and file a safe-t claim? Or can I refuse to refund anything? Because usually if I don't refund anything Amazon will automatically give them a full refund.
Thanks!

You should process this return as a switcheroo, meaning you can refund and take a 100% restocking fee. You will want to message the buyer with images of what was returned to you. Odds are that the buyer will file an A-to-z claim and you will want to represent your case with your information and with the images sent to the buyer. Other sellers would tell you to approach this as if the buyer "mistakenly" returned the wrong item to you. Tell them if they want their item back, to send you a prepaid return label. This shows positive intent on your part. Good luck to you, and if you need additional support don't hesitate to come back here and update me.
I let them know that they returned an unused product and I will not be refunding. I wait for Amazon to refund and then file a Safe-T Claim.
Report them to their local police department by filing a fraud complaint.\
If the Post Office was used file a complaint with the Postal Inspectors.
NEVER expect Amazon to be on your side.
Simple....you are !@#$ed. Amazon will side with the customer unless you use their shipping service.....even then they will try to !@#$ you.
I took all items off of amazon over 100$. We've lost thousands of $$ because of this.
Customers buy the new product, then return the product they have been using and abusing claiming it's a defect......it's fraud...
I'll add. I've tried the whole restocking fee game....reaching out to customer support.....Amazon seller support is a joke.....and we've lost the restocking fee game every time.
wow, are you me? i'm FBM auto part seller in the $100-300 range and i've had more than a few times a customer returns their old car part to me after swapping in the new one. my parts are heavy so paying shipping both ways only to get back a customer's old junk part is quite infuriating, since I'll never get that shipping fee back and forth even with the 99% restocking fee. there should be a way to charge a customer 120% for abuse.
an UPDATE.
I filed a safe-t claim for the first item, while charging a 100% restocking fee for the second item.
The safe-t claim was DENIED.
