Re-verification - What "company registration number" do they want?

Received email: Action required: Re-verify your Amazon seller account

I’m trying to go through the process, but I am not sure what “company registration number” I should put in the form. I opened a case asking seller support 10 days ago, no reply. My business is organized as a single member LLC and I’ve been selling on Amazon with this seller account for about 10 years. I’ve never any issues or policy problems etc.

What should I put for "company registration number?"

  • State Sales Tax Permit Number?
  • Social Security Number (I use this to pay taxes on the business as a single member LLC)
  • EIN (Employer Identification Number?) (I received this from the IRS, but don’t use it since I am a single member LLC; a passthrough tax entity, and have no employees.)
  • Something else?

Quick follow-up for others in the future, as I know it sucks to search and find a thread like this with no answer. If this helps you please do the like function as I think it will help others find this solution too.

ANSWER: My RE-verification was accepted using my business tax number for the company registration number. (I just ended up guessing and luckily was right.) It was the SSN, not EIN in my case. But if you file taxes using your business’ EIN then I would use that. Also not state permit as someone else suggested elsewhere.

Amazon support was useless as mentioned previously, over a month and 4+ cases and they only ever responded with the above stock reply that was no help and just told me to open a new case in a loop.

It would have been a simple answer too: "What does “company registration number” on the verification form mean? Answer: your business tax number.

Your company registration number is the state registration number you were issued when you registered for a license to do business in your home state
In states were no such license is required (like Texas) I’d go for the Employer tax ID EIN

Really hoping for a solid answer from someone who has successfully verified recently, in the US. What number did you use as “company registration number?”

Here on the forums I’ve received advice that it should be either the state registration number, EIN, or my SSN (since that is what I use for business taxes as a single member LLC.) But I already had those guesses before.

This is what I’m leaning toward, but I am in a state where no license is required, so maybe my EIN, but I never used that when doing the tax questionnaire or signing up years ago. I’m hoping to get an answer from someone who has recently, successfully verified (rather than a best guess.)

Amazon support has been less than zero help. I have received the exact same answer 3 times, and they just redirect me back to the seller contact page, which is what I used to contact them in the first place. Replying to the open case or making a new one, they just repeat the below message and nothing else (I have also searched the help link listed, there are no details about “company registration number”)

We received your inquiry but we are unable to provide support on this matter. For assistance, you can contact Selling Partner Support:

I am using an LLC for my Amazon selling as well. I too have been selling on Amazon for about 10 years w no issues.

I recently got the "need to re-verify" email- but hit a snag:

For the "business type" field,

Should I select "none- I am an individual" or "privately-owned business"?

again, I use my LLC and get my Amazon 1099 with the LLC's EIN on it.

any help appreciated!
