Signature Secured: Signature Confirmation

What factors lead you to use signature confirmation for an order?

Amazon's machine learning technology considers the following factors to determine if a signature confirmation is recommended:

  • Item value
  • Product type
  • Buyer purchasing history

Based on these criteria, Amazon's system will flag orders that have a potential risk of being claimed as lost. These "at-risk" orders will be highlighted with dedicated messages and banners in the Seller Central interface. Specifically, on the Manage Orders page, "Signature confirmation recommended" will be displayed under Order Status. On the Order Details page, a banner will appear at the top along with a message under the "More information" section.

If a buyer does report the order as undelivered on an order with signature confirmation enabled, Amazon will perform additional checks on the buyer's account before approving any claim or refund. This added layer of verification helps reduce fraudulent claims. It's estimated that adding signature confirmation to at-risk orders will reduce reported lost orders by 35%.

Hi @TaylorR_Amazon,

This is a great post because it opens a question that many sellers are wondering.

Does a seller, who activated AHT and SSA and shipped on-time using Amazon Buy Shipping Services, lose the Claims Protection if they do not pay the additional cost for the added Signature confirmation?

I consider product type, item value, sketchy neighborhoods.

I have perfect 5 star ratings except one 3 star due to Signature Confirmation, This is customer comment

"I did not know the item would need to be signed for and it was NOT properly handled by my post office. It took numerous phone calls to find out it was sitting on a shelf. I picked it up Feb 2.. This defeated the purpose of paying for expedited shipping to get it by 1/31, Chinese New Year."

I do continue to use Signature Confirmation on all expedited and high $ items and reach out to all non communication restricted customer to alert them of incoming SC order.

I contacted Amazon CS and customer to have feedback adjusted with no success.

Finally I am hearing news that it will protect us 30% or 40%. We will see what happens during these days, especially Black Friday.

Yes, Amazon does suggest having a signature confirmation. However... On the claim end, scamming buyers know how to beat the Amazon system at the seller's expense.

If that signature is not the exact mane as the buyer's name, Amazon will not pay the INR claim. All the buyer has to do is call customer service and say they do not know who that person is, and the buyer receives a full refund from the seller's account. Case Closed.
