USPS has lost 13 packages

Hey Guys,

Need your help/advice with this!! USPS has lost 13 of our packages between December 5th to January 31st. We have filed a claim for 4 of these and are working on filing the claim for the remaining but not sure how helpful that would be.

When we check the tracking for some of our items it says:
Pre-Shipment Info Sent to USPS, USPS Awaiting Item

According to our warehouse, the package has left the facility, but the USPS driver has not scanned the package. A common problem also, this is according to the USPS customer service.

and for the others it says:
Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility.

All the shipping labels were purchased from Amazon as we had seller fulfilled prime. Since these packages never got scanned or delivered, our on-time delivery rate dropped which resulted in us losing SFP. We also had a few customers file A to Z claim, and we had a few whose items we replaced right away.

USPS customer service has not been helpful, and our calls keep getting transferred to different departments. I would also like to point out that our items are expensive, we sell shoes priced between $160 to $300, so this is coming at a significant loss to us.

We are suspecting that a specific USPS driver receiving these goods is probably stealing them?? Have any of you experienced something similar? Have you dealt with a similar issue before? Has Amazon helped or is there someone senior at USPS that we can contact?

The post office will say that they never had these items.

Depending on how long the package has been in this state you can get these classified as lost.

You can report your suspicions to USPS and they will investigate.
If your local carrier is doing this to you then you can be sure that you are not the only one.

And this extremely poor service by USPS surprises you why?

They are the most inefficient and poorly managed shipping service available.

Any that say “pre-shipment info sent to USPS” they will almost definitely not allow a claim on. Because according to them you never got it to them.

If your driver is picking up, they need to scan your packages there before they leave. Or you supply them with the SCAN sheet and they scan that. Otherwise, you need to take it to the retail counter and have them scanned there in front of you.

Unlucky 13 … surprised, we have only lost 9 in the last 8 years, and that’s usually in Jersey City (May be the worst hub on the East Coast).

this is why i drop my USPS packages off at the local TRUSTED USPS post office BEHIND the door and ask they scan them immediately. also buy shipping via amazon for issues with INRs. not sure you can do anything at this point, but do due diligence going forward

13 Packages? :v:

If you have Amazon shipping, you could work with the Post Office to try and locate them and request patience. Meantime, if your buyers are getting impatient, politely steer them towards an A-Z claim and explain that Amazon takes care of this kind of refunds for orders with delivery issues.

The A-Z team may wait for resolution, especially if you helpfully provide information retrieved from the post office. Whatever helpful you can provide Amazon, they best have the ability to delay a refund until a package is either delivered or found or lost.

In consideration of feedback, irregardless of what you do find out. I think it’s best not to threaten a buyer with any kind of legal action, postal inspector, police report. Be polite and let Amazon do this policing or investigation.

If you didn’t purchase shipping from Amazon. There would be another way to resolve.

I am not sure what is going on, but I think January 2019 was the worst month for lost packages in our 10+ years selling. We sell low price items, and ship about 70 USPS First Class packages a day. I would guess there was about 20 packages in January that were A) never delivered and just stopped scanning B) Said they were delivered and the customer did not receive or C) just keep going in circles to different states for weeks and do not get delivered. One in December even went to Germany and then back to the USA (but never delivered).

Hopefully this is just a blip.

How many packages have you shipped? Is 13 a large number of that? We have had 30-40 packages lost in that time frame, however it is only .02% of what has been shipped so it isnt a big deal.

Also why are you not using scan forms? If USPS never scans the items, they cant issue a claim. If they cant scan every single package you ship in front of you, you need to have them scan a scan form, or 'End of Day" form as Amazon calls it.

We found the US Post scanning technology is improving however they do still “lose” packages but not very often, <1%. Like others mentioned you can reduce the likelihood of this occurring by physically taking packages to an office so they scan in-person and you walk out with a printed receipt. Although I have examples where I see them scan yet it won’t show in the tracking system until it reaches final destination 2-3 days later. You mention “our warehouse” - depending on the situation and number of touch points it could be yet another point of possible fraud… Good luck!
