Tried to write messages to 2 different buyers today and noticed that in each, the “From” line was populated with my actual full name as opposed to my business name.
Never saw this before and don’t want messages going out with that info. Has anyone seen this before?
Check your account settings > display name. You do not want customers seeing your personal info, just a bad idea.
Thank you for bringing this up!!! I just discovered the same issue. I had noticed that the messaging page looked different, but I had been too busy to notice that it was showing my personal name instead of my display name. Argh! Opening a case…
Thanks for pointing this out! It’s possible that our personal name is just displaying internally and that the delivered message will correctly display our seller name as the sender. Either way, I’m opening a case with SS!
According to seller support, the name of your legal entity will reflect in the from e-mail address while sending messages to buyers. So if you’re a sole proprietor or single-member LLC for example, your legal entity name is likely your personal name. To change this, you have to go through the tax interview process in Settings > Account Info > Legal Entity section.
EDIT:
Seller support is clearly mistaken. As another user in here suggested, I changed my buyer account name to my seller account name, and it worked instantly. The sender name in buyer-seller messaging now reflects my edited buyer account name.
As I think someone here suggested, it might be that the message is changed to indicate only the seller name as the sender of the message once it’s sent. I did a test message and looking back at it, I saw only my storefront name as the sender.
It seems to be independent of what the buyer account name has on it. My friend’s seller account has this problem, too, and she doesn’t even have a buyer account.
I just sent an email and my name was on the new email format but when I went to look at the message I sent and looked at the emailed copy sent to me, my name was not on either of those. So, hoping it was not there.
