Hello,
Since Amazon has started collecting Marketplace Facilitator Sale Tax for Illinois on Jan 1st, 2020, Do I still need to file my quarterly sale tax with the state like last quarter?
Please help!
Thanks
Yes, you do somehow to inform those taxes were collected, otherwise it may look you are not reporting to your star. If you don’t have an account, it might be a good idea just to consult how to handle it from now on.
. We use the services of taxjar, that ends reporting our collections from our website- and shows zero collection from the links with Amazon and eBay (because these marketplaces already did.)
1st question, do you live inside or outside of Illinois. The correct answer will depend on that answer.
I live outside of Illinois and when I talked to them a few months ago, they said to just put zeros in all the areas that I normally fill out.
If you don’t file and still have an active account with them, they are expecting you to file something.
I thought they collected sales tax for Illinois for amazon and ebay. And, then a few weeks ago I received threatening legal action because they said I didn’t pay the sales tax. I’m pretty sure I paid when they took the funds from my sales but I paid them twice anyway since it was only $10 for the entire year. I don’t have time for any state to ruin my business for $10.
Marketplace facilitators only collect 6.25%…I think you have to pay the remaining taxes above that rate for your specific location, as well as any taxes that were not collected.
You also have to report your use tax for purchases you made that are subject to sales tax but that were not collected by the seller.
