Dear Amazon Seller Community and Amazon Compliance Team,
I’m posting because the button cell / coin battery compliance issue under Reese’s Law (16 CFR Part 1263 and ANSI/UL 4200A) continues to create major disruptions for legitimate watch sellers — even for well-known brands like Casio.
Background:
A couple of years ago, Amazon’s systems mass-deactivated thousands of watch listings (including many Casio models) due to stricter enforcement of consumer products containing button cell batteries. Sellers had to submit ISO 17025-accredited lab test reports and General Certificates of Conformity (GCC). After several months and many appeals, over 90% of the listings were reactivated. At the time, we understood that major manufacturers like Casio had provided the necessary compliance documentation at the brand level.
All Casio watches I sell already include the required warning labels on the packaging and product, and the battery compartments require a tool to open — fully meeting the child-safety performance requirements of UL 4200A.
Current problem (last 30 days):
For me, several of the exact same Casio watch ASINs that were previously approved and active have now been suppressed again under the “Food and Product Safety Issues” category in Seller Central. No new documentation request, no new warning — just sudden deactivation. This is the second time the same compliant listings are being taken down.
Current Issue (April 2026):
In the last month, several of the exact same Casio watch ASINs that were previously reviewed and approved have been suppressed again under the “Food and Product Safety Issues” (or similar Product Safety) category in Seller Central. There was no new documentation request or specific warning — just sudden deactivation.
One example is ASIN : B06WD58QNF
This is the second (or third) time the same compliant products are being hit by automated systems. It’s extremely disruptive for sellers who have already gone through the process and hurts sales of safe, brand-name products that clearly meet federal and Amazon requirements.
What we urgently need from Amazon:
1) Implement a permanent brand-verified or whitelisted status for manufacturers (e.g., Casio) that have already submitted valid UL 4200A test reports and GCCs at the brand level.
2) Prevent automated bots from repeatedly flagging previously approved ASINs that continue to meet labeling and performance standards.
3) Accept manufacturer-level documentation more reliably instead of requiring every individual seller to re-submit the same paperwork for identical models.
4) Improve transparency and speed in the appeal process when “Product and Food Safety Issues” flags appear on clearly compliant items.
Many other watch and electronics sellers are experiencing the exact same recurring deactivations with Casio and similar brands. If this is affecting you, please reply below with your experiences or affected ASINs so we can demonstrate the scale of the problem.
Amazon team — please escalate this to the Product Safety & Compliance leadership. A one-time systemic fix (better integration of manufacturer compliance data and smarter automation rules) would resolve this once and for all, reduce unnecessary workload on both sides, and allow us to focus on selling safe products.
Thank you for your attention and help.
This needs a permanent resolution.
