So as the title says a competing seller just wrote me a message trying to solicit me into substantially raising the price of an item which he would match. Here is the message:
Can we keep the Lotus price at $49.99 . We can rotate the buy box ? It selling selling very good at this price (Win-Win)
How do I report this guy?
Unless you want to report to the Federal Trade Commission -- don't bother. Amazon ignores sellers reporting sellers.
I agree, report price fixing outside of Amazon.
Well the plot thickens.....he has not changed the listing to offer 3 packets instead of an entire box. Here we go I guess....
Amazon price fits everything using their High & Low Pricing Errors and Buy Boxes are removed when PRICE is to high limits set by Amazon stopping sales so nothing matters on this platform everything is Price Manipulation controlled by Amazon if you free trade marketplace Amazon is last choice!
I for one think that it might make sense to communicate and maintain a proper price and avoid that fabled race to the bottom. Provided that you guys aren't price gouging and your customers are happy with the price. Otherwise we sellers always tank the price and in the end there are only two winners: Amazon, who will get their fees no matter what and the Customer, who will get a cheaper product.
You have to report this to amazon. If not you will get a critical warning from amazon a couple of months down the road. Stating this from experience.
I received a similar message. I marked it as no response needed. Amazon sent me an email a month or so later giving me a warning for participating (which i never did) in price fixing and my account would be suspended indefinitely if this occurs again.
You don't report it because you can't prove it unless he sent it in paper form signed on letterhead. If it was just a phone call then good luck and next time just hang up or block the number.
Kinda sounds like the buyer is trying to help both of you...
This often happens when someone adds a item to the listing and is like, I can sell it lower... this leads to both of you going out of business undercutting each other.
Manufacturers list a MSRP or MAP or SRP and people sell it there, so everyone has a target. In fact undercutting someone can get your listing removed if the manufacturer has a minimum set up
Nothing worth reporting or malicious happening here whatsoever
