Starting yesterday, I have an Amazon bot going through my listings and telling me I need to submit a General Certificate of Conformity in accordance with UL 4200A (button cell batteries) for items with button cell batteries.
I have many items with button cell batteries and I've never been asked for this.
These items are for adult use (not toys) and you need a screwdriver to gain access to the CR2032 batteries.
Is this documentation a new requirement?

Same problem here with 2 watches . Amazon is requesting the UL 4200A test
yep, several calculators. No idea what to do about these
In the last 24 hours, we have been hit with 45 of these requests (so far) More pop up every time I refresh the 'Manage your compliance' page.
The real kicker is that most of the required date for these documents, lab test results and packaging images are for April 22 (This upcoming Monday)
We quickly wrote the various manufacturers of these products forwarding the requirements and none of them have what Amazon is requesting (and certainly cannot provide by Monday)
Also unsure how to proceed here.
Hi @Seller_Sram36TnVt73c,
Dominic from Amazon here, do you have the ability to provide the certificate at this time? In addition to that did you create a case with Seller Support regarding this? If so please provide me with the Case ID.
Best,
Dominic
From what we found on the internet this requirements are about Reese’s Law/UL 4200A, the Standard for Safety for Products Incorporating Button Batteries or Coin Cell Batteries. The intent of this groundbreaking rule is to eliminate or adequately reduce the risk of injury from ingestion of button cell or coin batteries by children six years of age and younger during reasonably foreseeable use or misuse conditions
As required by Reese's Law, the NPR proposed that consumer products containing button cell or coin batteries require the battery to be secured in a manner that would eliminate or adequately reduce the risk of injury from the ingestion hazard to children during reasonably foreseeable use or misuse conditions.
We sell adult watches and it is imposible a 6 years child to open the watch and gain access to the battery.
In order to open the backcase needs the force of a strong adult and a screwdriver , the backcase is pressed with a special machine and can't be opened by most adult men's ... we think this is a mistake.
What will happen if we can't provide in the requested timeframe this General Certificate of Conformity in accordance with UL 4200A (button cell batteries) , Amazon will delete all wristwatches listings ?
I did some more research because the rejections I am getting make no sense.
Apparently, the UL 4200A requirement applies to products manufactured or imported after March 19, 2024.
So in my latest appeal, I am asking for exemption because my items were imported/manufactured in 2023.
Will see what happens. Hoping this will at least allow me to sell my remaining stock if the exemption is approved. Otherwise, fingers crossed my supplier has the documentation needed.
This thread is addressing the same issue:
I am having the same Issue. Just got over 50 of my listings tagged with this saying I need to conform with this. I exclusively sell mens and women's adult wrist watches that all require specific tools to have the case back opened along with specific tools to get the battery out of the case after removing the case back. I was only given a month to comply and no clue where to go with it.
what is really frustrating is that the law doesn't actually apply to most of the products already on the market. According to the guidelines it applies to products manufactured or imported after 3/19/24. But as usual, Amazon anais going to apply it to everything, old and new, and leave sellers unable to sell older itemson the platform st.
"The Commission recognizes that there may be limited testing availability and potential hardship with meeting the mandatory requirements; therefore, the Commission has granted an enforcement discretion such that these requirements will apply to products manufactured or imported after March 19, 2024."
Currently going through this issue, I have read thru entire thread here, Does/ Did anyone manage to bypass the needed requirements, I have summited countless appeals just for them to get rejected. Also sucks due to my item are in FBA and i cant just let them throw away my products or even have them giving me a fee for returning my products.Help???
